Just wondering what y'all do to pay the bills and stuff, lol.
I ain't askin' how much ya make, just what ya actually do day-to-day...
I farm a couple small farms, one is 160 acres, the other is 190, mainly soybeans, wheat, and the 190 acre place is hay, and some of the pasture there is also in a Conservation Reserve Program, which at first was started to help control erosion, but now is geared more toward wildlife assistance, mainly quail, pheasant, and to a lesser degree, whitetail deer.
All that aside, I'm going to be moving soon, to work for a Ford dealership. Pretty excited about that, and I'll be on the transportation/delivery side of things.
I've also worked at a plastic bottle manufacturer, a food processing outfit, a pharmaceutical factory, and my last job other than the off-and-on farming was working at the junkyard, where I started as a parts-puller, ending up as the main mechanic after their first guy left.
SO...Lets hear what YOUR job(s) are....lol
I served 5 years in the USAF,got out as a Staff Sergeant after the Persian Gulf War in '91 (signed up for 4 years, spent 14 months over in the Gulf, ended up doing 5 years).I then was a city patrolman (2 years),now I work for the Veteran's center here in town (13 1/2 years now),where I'll retire from.My military time adds to that,so,18 1/2 years towards the good life.
My whole work history has been restrant/food oriented. I've worked at a hometown pizza shop, A small town restrant, and right now I'm a part time cook/waiter for an itillian restrant. Pay sucks, beraly enough to pay bills ( and thats only my cell bill and DSL and to fund the car) but there is really nothing in this town.
Hey Fila, start hitting the yards and gathering parts and sell them on E-bay.That's what helps fund project Pheonix.
I'm an engineer in the HVAC group at Caterpillar tractor company.
Currently doing drafting for a small industrial process engineering firm (lots of fabricated steel drawings) that is a sales rep for Metso slurry pumps, so we mostly do work for coal mines & prep plants, and occasionally sand & gravel quarries. Pay sucks, but I'm hoping to get some experience here and move on to bigger and better things as I don't think I'll ever make any real money here.
I do like the casual environment though, I can wear jeans, a t-shirt, and a hat to work if I want.
I am in research and development for Bridgestone Firestone. I get to play with rubber all day.
I think we already did this... but I've changed jobs since then anyways.... i think.
Anyhoos, my first job I was working in a local grocery store. Worked for two more chain grocery stores before I realized I hated the consumer goods industry. Got a job working for the local utility company doing basic manual labor up until I graduated high school. That was probably the second best job I ever had. Just riding around in a truck all day fixing stuff. Good times. Afterwards I joined the Navy as an Electronics Technician. Got court martialed and discharged two years later. Starting working for a small family owned Engineering Services company soon afterwards doing building surveys, GIS, and eventually CAD. Working for a small family owned business sucks! They treat you like family. A dysfunctional one. Did that bit for about 4-5 years... was laid off for about a year and a half of that. It just so happened that when I moved to Detroit they had an office up here.
Just recently started working for an International Environmental Company about 5 months ago and is hands down the best job I have ever had. After seeing what ends up in our groundwater, I'm starting to get a little conservative myself. It's kinda funny how things come full circle as when I was a kid I wanted to be a scientist. Well I ain't a scientist but working for them is close enough for me. :)
^He got caught wiring up a honkin' big stereo in his quarters on-board! lol j/k
(ok kick my ass now :beatyoass:) lmao
I am a Research Assistant in the field of Child Development and Enrichment.
It's the best job I've ever had, even though I don't get paid for it.
Oh and my husband is a truck driver. He delivers locally to restaurants, bars and other food service places. (he gets paid)
My first job was a parts guy at Canadian Tire. HATED IT. I hated the store, the employees and the customers. I hated people calling and asking for a part for their car without knowing anything about it ("yeah, I need a distributor cap for my Sunbird. Don't know the year or engine. Ya got one?").Then they get pissed off when they get the wrong part.
I lasted about three months, then quit to go to trade school.
After trade school I put my resume in at every dealership and shop in the city, and only got a call back from a small radiator/gas tank shop. Nice people to work for, but the work itself sucked - the rads weren't so bad, but the gas tanks were a pain. That and the fact that I was the new guy, meaning lowest on the totem pole, meaning I got all the shiznit jobs AND I had to make all the deliveries. After a few months I was pretty disgusted and depressed. Then, one day, four dealerships that I had dropped my resume off at called. It was a few months after I dropped them off, but all four called on the same day. The dealerships were Saturn, Chevy, Chrysler, and Ford. I chose the Saturn dealership thinking hat working on new Saturns had to be better than working on old Cavaliers, K-Cars and Tempos. Little did I realize that the Saturn dealership also included Saab and Isuzu (both way, WAY worse than working on any Chevy, Dodge or Ford), as well as the occasional Daewoo (Optima, or Pontiac LeMans to you Americans). That job lasted four years, then I got rear-ended and injured my back/neck. I tried several times to go back to work but it was never successful, and in the meantime the Saturn dealership cut my hours back to part time because of the injuries. I don't begrudge them that - after all, they only had four bays and needed a capable mechanic in each, and the shop manager knew I was done for in that trade, even if I didn't.
Unfortunately part time work doesn't pay full time bills. I left Saturn and did a six month stint at a Chevy dealership that involved a 1.5 hour commute EACH WAY. I was getting deeply depressed, as the more I worked the more it became obvious that I could not do this work anymore. I had three doctors telling me to quit, but I couldn't because of bills. It was in returning home from this job that I wrecked my Cougar one Friday evening in April 99. I quit the following Monday. I had had enough, and the Cougar crash opened my eyes - I could've died, and I would've died unhappy.
Thankfully, with all the doctors agreeing that it was due to the original crash that I could not work (I had been seeing them before the Cougar crash) so insurance restarted my meagre benefits. They also recommended I see a career specialist to talk retraining. We all agreed that I should be in an automotive environment. I tried a stint as a service advisor - the only job I hated more than that Canadian Tire job. One day I had to leave work with a kidney stone. I went to the hospital, they gave me painkillers and sent me home. While lying on the bed in absolute agony (those of you who have not experienced a kidney stone do not even know what pain is) my boss called and gave me shiznit for leaving. This was it. I told him what I thought of him and about four generations of his family and hung up.
The next day I went in at about noon to get my walking papers. The boss asked me into his office and had the nerve to say "I know you were under the influence of painkillers yesterday, so I know you didn't mean what you said. Just apologize and we'll forget about it". I reiterated my hatred for his entire family and left.
I went from there to my current job, which I've had since 2000. Building cop cars. It's kind of a light-duty mechanic job, mainly running wires but occasionally building and installing steel cages. I was doing this full time up until a few years ago, when my shop lost the RCMP contract and I was laid off. During my layoff I started Thundercat Electronixx (actually I had started it a bit before the layoff but could never devote much attention to it). My shop then got the contract back, but I was doing too well with TC Electronixx so I only agreed to go back part time.
That leaves me where I am now: Three days a week I build cop cars. The other four I do TC Electronixx stuff and post on message boards :D
Oh, lol... nothing bad. Well I was 18-19 and I although I really liked the Navy (almost signed back up a couple years later... I still miss it to this day) I was still a kid who didn't really like to be told when and where I could go. I got in trouble a lot. Mainly with the Chief Petty Officers because they were old school. One day I just said the hell with it and when AWOL... until my uncle found me (Ex-Military and super old school. Did I mention huge?)... went back without getting caught. I had to lie to get off base. Apparently it worked very well. lol.
About a year later I got orders to my carrier (USS Harry S Truman) and I loved the ship, but I had way too much idle time on my hands. Went AWOL again. This time I was just screwing around with some friends on various bases in the area. In Norfolk, there's a million of them. Got caught by the base police... my buddy turned himself in earlier... I think he tipped them off. Jerk. lol. Anyhoos, got a minor court martial hearing, I told them I didn't want to be there anymore... they actually tried to change my mind, but I was done. They dropped me a rank (which pissed me off because I was due to gain a rank), docked my pay, sent me to the brig and sent me home on the worst bus ride ever. I got an Administrative Separation which is pretty much middle of the road discharge. You have to do something pretty f-ed up to get a dishonorable discharge.
Good old Carmen. Always good for writing a book. ;)
I'm a Concrete Reinforcement Detailer for the local Construction Steel supplier. I work on outsorced detailing jobs from New England (mostly). Just another way to say Drafter.
Right now I'm cleaning up the muddled mess of a structural drawing my neighbour (next desk over) made. She couldn't have even been trying. If she hadn't gotten busy with fixes to old projects (seeing something here) I never would have gotten this job to clean up (they call it finish). I can't imagine if this had actually made it to the client. Only about 50% of the steel would have worked.
I was new to the industry once too, but this lesson should have been learned by now. They put dimensions on drawings for a reason, now drop the scale. :beatyoass:
I am a production line welder. I build Freight cars for the railroads, for National Steel Car. Great Job, Great pay, Full benifits. Nothing to complain about, except that I just got laid off last week, after 3.5years. oh well, now I finally have time to work on the coug.
Customer Engineer Life Science and Chemical buttstuffysis
I basically service and support the kinds of lab machines you see used on CSI
Worked for Mercedes Benz for 18 years and almost 2 years ago decided that was enough. Bought a house and a few acres(and a 6 car garage) and now I work for myself. I serve legal papers for a bunch of different lawyers so I get to meet the scum of the world but I work when I want if I want
I work in photo/video production for a media company in WV. My last day is the 12th of this month and I have no other job lined up. That shows you how much I hate it here. I'm actually leaving a solid job with nothing else lined up.
I plan to be living in NC or SC by the end of this month.
I am supposed to be a computer administrator once I graduate, though this year of school I have changed my mind and wanna be an auto mechanic, but just don't know how to tell the rents, that and I also deliver pizzas, and run the store on occasion.
Library Clerk, Chicago Public Library (city job:D ). I work part time but get 3 sick days, 2 weeks paid vacation, paid hoilidays, a pension and I make waaaay too much money for a part timer (gotta love unions).
I am a full time college student majoring to be a Anesthesia Technologist. I am not currently working, but the thouhgt has crossed my mind. We will see how it goes...
good good...keep'em comin' in folks...:D
I suppose that I, too, could write a novel...nowhere near as interesting as Carm's though...lol
You might even fall asleep halfway through ...it...Zzzz ZZZzzz ZZZZ
Machinist
I worked for a Mold shop for 24 1/2 years, quit there and I now work in a production shop, machining airplane parts. So if you fly alot,beware......................j/k
Im a Truck driver for a resteraunt supply company in town mainly they dont trust me out side the city limits... them cowards. pays ok but the hours are way to many and way to early. the only clues to what company are the trucks are teal green with a gold star on the side.
I am Chef and on the side i do car audio and electronics installs and car detailing for my cuz and a real good friend!!
I'm a computer operator for MedStar Health which operates some of the hospitals in MD. I basically monitor the interfaces and systems that flow patient information, doctors orders, meals etc, and perform backups for data recovery and such.
In college for Graphic Design and should be picking up my first official design job at Towson any time now.
I install banking equipment. We do vaults, safes, night deposits and drive up equioment as well as alarms, card access and cctv. I do a lot of commercial buildings as well but the bulk of my work is banks. We have a locksmith and I would like to learn that as well but I am always just to busy to devote any time to learning it. I've been doing the alarm, video and access for twenty years now and the banking equipment for about the last four years. Oh and before I came to this job, about four years ago, I did a two year or so stint working for diebold as an atm service tech, which I hated to death.
Maintenance Technician is my title. I also do Mold Tech. / Process Tech. where i work.
I can remember years ago, a company by the name of "Mold Tech" that did work for us. they did etching for us.It was located in Ohio some where (cant remember exact location).I wonder if this is the same place?
No, i work for TS Tech. We make doors and other stuff for Honda.
after spending 14 years on 3rd shift, doing tool & die, in a shop,( that got sold ),,,it was a blessing to go into excavating! the pays not bad,,sleeping at night is awesome & i never have the same day twice.
8 years and going at Genesis Attachments, as the "saw-guy" I'm the only one doing that, so my hours are anywhere from 40-80 a week. Also do bodywork outta my garage.
I am in school full time getting my BA, then its off to law school. The wife works and ends are meeting for now, but I am looking for maybe some late night work so I can put more money into the Coug.
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaabbbbbbbbbbsoooolutly
nooooooooooooooooooooooooooothhhhhhhing.
trying to get a job.
Well, if the current shiznit keeps up at the restrant, so will I. I'm down to 2 days a week. Anything but Micky-d's and I'll be happy
I work in a small engine repair (largest in our area) and fabricating shop. I do alot of engine rebuilds in quads, snowmobiles, etc. aswell as building sawmills and trailers. I built 6 small, 4 medium, and am currently building the second and third large mills of this year and theyre basically all sold.
On the mills I do most of the cutting, drilling and some of the welding, then theyre off to powdercoating, once they come back I gotta put them all back together, line everything up and make sure it will cut straight and true.
This is our second largest mill, cuts up to a 30" wide log, has a price tag between 10-50K depending on the chosen options.

It is by far the best job i've ever had, its family owned, my boss works harder than me most of the time, and it pays great (actually just got another raise as of next payday, second one in 9 months) I get weekends and holidays off, bonuses, parts at cost, snowmobiles and bikes real cheap. There really is no downside other than not being able to play with all the toys I get to work on.
So yeah, thats my story.
Scott
Cable Guy.
I was gonna go to school to be a procrastinator but I never got around to it.
I work that is what I do. That is if you can call what I do work. I pays the bills so it can't be that bad. I work at the counter at a auto parts chain store. Not bad easy work and lots of talking about cars.
Should be easy: Start off by telling them that every high school graduate since about 1995 went into computers so there are absolutely no job prospects in that field, then build on that by telling them that since cars have gotten so complicated there is a severe shortage of skilled technicians, and wrap it up by explaining that a good auto tech makes more than a computer administrator ever would (in my first year as a fully licensed tech I pulled in almost $60k, almost ten years ago). Then ask them to buy your tools for you :D
Science Teacher at a junior high (grades 6-8).
Last several years I have had all 6th graders, though I have one 8th grade class this year. Our science classes in junior high are "Integrated" sciences - meaning we bounce around from topic to topic throughout the year...a little bit of everything. Keeps me from getting bored.:D
This is my 13th year...all at the same school.
I get to retire in May, 2024.
Im a part time student at the local JuCo. Also Im an "Auto Body Technician" at the local GM dealer. Im going to Nebraska next year to a tech school for Auto Body. I know how to repaint my cars, and fix all of the body problems with them. Headlight buckets got painted yesterday, TC hood is next and maybe some flames on my DD.
I'm an auto tech. I work at the used car dealer that I bought my Grand Prix from. It started off well enough but now it's turning into my previous job....stressful, very underpaid, and a lot of BS. I have my State Inspection, Emission, and A/C licenses and barely pulled 20k in last year. This year at my current rate, I'm expecting about 25k....and this is with a .75 raise and another pending raise of undetermined amount (prolly .50). I'm heading towards a depressive state and I can't see any progess coming in the near or semi-distant future on my Cougar, which further depresses me. So yeah....needless to say I'm not happy with my decision to pursue this career path. It's all hype. I have a friend who went to the same school, did just as well as I did...and now he isn't even working in the field. He is going to school for bar tending...
The shortage of techs that they claim in all the commercials and infomercials doesn't exist here. There isn't any work either. The local dealers are begging the used car dealers to send up any car they think may need warranty work, recalls, and just work. I only put up with this place because I have no where else to go...unemployment is up here and the only tech jobs are at a Goodyear store...and Goodyear is a company I will never ever ever ever work for again.
I was going to stay out of this thread because I have nothing good to say about my job...but seeing someone get tossed the very best outlook for a career deserves to know what the opposite side of the spectrum is. I'd concider myself the best tech in my shop (fastest and least amount of mistakes/combacks but definently not the most knowledgable), yet I'm the least paid and least respected...mostly because I'm "young". I think with knowing both the good and bad will help in making a better decision...and I've spoken my part....good luck with whatever you do.
I make toys geared towards collectors as well as prototyping for clients of the company. I graduated from college with a BS in Model Design. Now I am 1 of 2 model makers for this company: https://www.gentlegiantltd.com/catalog
That's awesome. You should make a johnny the homicidal maniac figure. I'd buy it.
Night shift chassis mechanic at a rail yard.
im a chassis builder/fabricator in a sprint car shop.
Full time student. I finished off my auto body repair program this past fall. Currently working on my welding associates degree. I'm a student worker in the welding lab. Will be attending classes at Lincoln Motorsports Welding School. Will probably be teaching auto body welding classes as of next fall and hoping to get in to one of the automotive based welding jobs in the area.
I run a shop for a construction co.In the winter I fix things the idiots break all year, the rest of the year I fix things they break.
I work seasonly at a theme park, but since I'm heading to college, I want a full year job. Thinking on trying to find a machine shop or auto shop that might take me on. Kinda doubt it, but worth a shot.
For the long run, engineering seems to be where I'm heading. I'll know more when I get there. :D
i work as a helper installing wood, gas and pellet stoves, and piping them in. In other words im a grunt, but a well payed grunt i get 10 bucks a hour under the table, and a workout so i don't complain!
umm i walk around and get paid. ;)
id suck at that job i hate walking
Business Technology Consultant
Basically I am a do all computer guy. Always have been always will be.
I'll stick with it instead of trying to become that one mechanic in that one town at that one shop that someone heard makes good money.
Don't get me wrong, when it comes to turning wrenches I can turn em just as good as anyone. But a potential 6 figure income with my eventual Masters in Computer Networking from DeVry keeps me motivated.
This job is also paying for my CCNA/P, A+, MCSA/E (in as many as I want) and whatever else I want.
Tis the truth.:birdsmily:
I work midnights, 10 - 6:30, at a large retail store in a 'receiving' position. As hard as they work me, that 'receiving' title takes on a whole new meaning. That means I unload trucks & stock shelves for 8 hours. Basically make the store look fresh & new for the morning. I've been there for three months and I'm a few weeks overdue for my evaluation, which should come with a raise to put me at a whopping $8.45/hr. It's okay till I get through with school, which seems like that day will never come. In my 5th year (changed major a bit late in the game) and still almost a senior I wish I'd gone to a tech school and been done with it so I don't have to bust my ass for peanuts.
Speaking of which, I'm regretting the fact that I'd said I'd come in tonight the other day. It was supposed to have been my first night off, but meh.
Are you 'receiving' with your hands on your knees? :tg:
:rollin:
BURN!
:rollin:
I was going to MSU back in 89' (majoring in beer bongs and water bongs) when I came home for Christmas, down at the local bar I ran into a guy I went to HS with, he asked me if I still remembered how to use a plazma cutter from shop class, and if so, he could get me some quick work over the Christmas break (I was very very poor, only could afford old mud or pabst beer at the time), anyway I said hell yes! Went down to this company the following Monday, put in the app, and the next thing you know I am cutting the rear floor pan out of 150 new Aerostars (a run of bad panels) making 10 bucks an hour. Needless to say I never went back to school, went out of town to the Ford test track in Orlando a couple of months later, then came out to Cali in June of 1990 to work in Fords prototype shop here, never went back to Michigan, put my time in here, busted my rear every day, and am now the facility manager making over 100K, free BC/BS PPO health care, 5 weeks paid vac, 401k, etc. who would have thought! Anyway, out here on the west coast we support Fords marketing and advertising adventures, from TV commericials, print ads, and market researches to engineering support. We build, paint, update prototypes for these projects, then man and support each project, it is something different eveyday! I will have put 20 years in here in 2010, I am trying to lay out a plan to retire early (I will be 45) and travel the countryside! I count my blessings daily!!
Now that's a cool story!
Please excuse my language but at the moment im a Pallet Bitch, i build, destroy and repair pallets all day long, sounds fun eh? But i do get a nice long drive to work every day a 44 mile drive...one way not to mention im a temp with no permanent position in sight,oh yes i also work for a meager 8.00 bucks an hour. A question for the Canadian members, how are jobs up in Canada? i have entertained thoughts of moving up there.
i guess it's my turn for a boring story... i've been (starting at 16) a busboy, a cashier at kmart, a tie salesman, a pizza delivery dude, tried the air force (medical discharge in basic), went back to kmart, went back to pizza delivery (turned 19), salesman at radio shack, new car salesman for 2 years, over the road and regional truck driver for another 7 years, (turned 29 with 3 kids so no more otr driving), street sweeper for local business, city driver for ford, general construction remodling, (turned 31), started school to be an auto tech, (meanwhile) manager at sonic, manager at popeyes, and FINALLY auto technician at carmax.... i goto school from 9am to 3pm and work from 7:30pm to 6:30am monday-friday...you do the math.... i get to sleep on the weekends  ....... at least i only work on production (unsold) cars so i don't have to deal with customers......... i have no idea what i'll do when the fall comes and i have no more school.... i might take a week off from work and just sleep ;)
It depends on what part of Canada you want to live in. There are jobs galore in the Dirty West, but then you have to deal with living there. You could live in the East (where God would have left his signature, had he made a big enough fountain pen) but you have to sit in line to get work, depending on what you do.
Worked @ a local movie theater as a "door man" ran the projectors and fixed pop corn.
Turned 18 grad h/s and went to the USAF as an Aircraft Mechinic
spent 5 years in Norther Ca, Then moved to Dover De. to workon the largest aircraft in the "free World" C-5.
Got out of the service moved back to Ky worked in a ler shop then a auto repair shop for about a year. Got on @ aluim plant as a mechnic( best pay/ less work). Got layed off after 5years.
Bought the ler shop I own now in Sept 2000. Did lers, brakes and light auto repair. Bought a chassis dyno in the
'05 went to Fla in spring of '05 to learn how to tune EFI Fords from SCT. Which I am still doing.
iv pretty much worked at sears sence i was 18, 23 now. i went from casheer, to somebody on the floor, to a stock room person, to somebody that tests and repairs merchandise, to what now is a district maintance technician. im part of a team of about 10 that covers all the Sears/Kmarts in the area from north east MD, north DE, south NJ, and south east PA.
besides that, i went to school for Ford from 02-04, but lost my taste for it working in a bad dealership. before that, i also worked on a tree farm, as a freezer/fridge stock guy in a dollar store that i later went on the news and helped do a report about them selling expired perishable food (company filed for bankruptsy) ,and as a cook for Friendy's.
I've worked in some type of mechanical position all my life (not that long really, I'm only 23). I started in the local town garage at age 14, doing everything from changing tires on combines (farming town) to tuning up old ford pickups. Then while going to university I worked for a local lumber company, basically as a mechanic, but I did carpentry work and sometimes drove trucks and forklifts as the need was. Basically my job was to maintain the fleet of approximately 50 vehicles (15 cars 30 pickups and 5 highway tractors).
When that company started having financial problems, I now work (just on a four month term) for the company that re markets the lease returns, repos, and buybacks for Ford, Gm, Chrysler, Honda, Toyota, and Mitsubishi in western Canada. I currently inspect and write up lots of reports on vehicles. So I get to drive just about every late model car from the cobalt to the H3.
In spring I finally graduate from university, then it will be onto something new again.
And for the person asking about job prospects in Canada.. Here in Manitoba / NW Ontario many companies are begging people to come work for them. Sask, is also entering a period for economic prosperity too. It also depends on what type of work you are looking for. Educated labor is what's in demand for the most part here, including all trades, truck drivers, mechanics etc... Living up here is would be quite a bit different from Ohio, but at least the cost of living is about the lowest you can find outside of Mexico!
Started working as a bagboy at a local grocery store when I was 16. Then went on to cashier and later the stock crew. Wasted 7 years of my life there until I realized that I hated it. Spent the next 2 years working at a plastic cup manufacturer. In the mean time I was going through rookie school to become a cop and worked part time as a Park Ranger at the N.C. Zoo. Got hired as a patrol officer in my local city in 1995 and been there ever since. Pay is descent, good benefits and lots of job security (crime is booming!!) just got to learn to speak better Spanish cause we've been invaded here.
I am a lawyer, doing mostly commercial and construction litigation.
Have anything to do with that retarded 'truth about trucks' dvd? :disappoin
Some of you guys have awesome jobs, i'm jealous.
Scott
I've been in the HVAC industry for 28 yrs. Currently I am doing commerical A/C but trying to get into DDC for Hvac. Thats the computer control system for large buildings and plants. As soon as Kingcars graduates college I'm semi-retiring. These kids cost me a fortune!!!! They need to take care of me. Yeah right, I'm not holding my breath!!!LOL
Ugh...you mean I have to graduate? .
I guess its my turn to post, I work in plastics and we make a wide variety of things. from road cones and barrels to port-a-potties to plastic sheds here are a few links the first one is the company I work for the others are companies that we make parts for.

I used to be a GM mechanic. I worked on the otherside of our love for cars. But I got tired of it real quick. So now I work at a Grocery store (Dillons) and I am a Dairy manager. It doesent pay alot but I manage to live. Been trying to get to work for a ford dealer. So I say good luck to me and all of you!!
The sooner the better!!!!!!!!!!:beatyoass:
Industrial Maintenance Mechanic
CNC Machinist, run and program 10 Axis turning /Milling Centers
Ive got one of them old school jobs ...... workin on the Railroad as a Locomotive Electrician
John
I've been a machinist for almost 10 years now. I've worked at the same family owned company since '98. We do mostly prototype and short run jobs; as a job shop we don't sell a product, instead companies come to us with blueprints and we make the parts for them. Most are local companies, but we've done work for some larger ones also. Even though I use the same equipment/tooling, the jobs vary a great deal. One day I might be making parts from aluminum, the next day stainless steel, brass, some weird composite, who knows?
I was hired on as their sheetmetal guy. After mastering that, I gained experience on a lathe and Bridgeport, and learned how to program our CNCs. Lately, I've been the QC guy. I didn't know hardly anything when I started, so I feel like I owe this place. My boss put me through school AAS in Manufacturing Tech/Tool and Die, (paid for everything, I just had to get B's or better)
When I finished my 2 year in MT instead of going to a 4 year school, I took a little time off, then about 2 years ago started taking classes towards a Business degree. Unlike most people, I enjoy school, and learning new stuff, plus I work with a bunch of dudes all day, so it's nice to go to school with a bunch of 18-22 year old hot girls. (hey at least I'm honest about my ulterior motives)
Up until recently, I loved my job, but it's starting to get old, and I don't know what the heck I wanna do for the next 30 years or so (i'm 28). Maybe this thread will give me some ideas.
I sell drugs..... I work for Pfizer in the Uro/Respitory division calling on primary care docs. I sell puppies, Detrol LA, Spiriva, & Chantix. In otherwords, if you are coming or going or just breathing heavy....I'm your guy.
