Hello,
I was wanting to know what everyone thought my ET's at the strip might be. I haven't had the Cougar at the strip before so when I do take it this spring, it'll be the first time.
The cat is an '87 XR7 with a '89 mustang HO engine and mass air conversion. The AOD has been rebuilt and it still has the wimpy 7.5 rearend with 3.08s. The heads are ported E7's with three angle valve job milled .010, 1.6 roller rockers, BBK shorty headers and off-road x-pipe with flowmaster 2 chamber lers with turndowns, BBK underdrive pulleys, cobra intake with 3/8 phenolic spacer, MAC cold air intake, 190 lph fuel pump. Any ideas on the ET and HP?
14.20 -13.90
Meh... mid 14's at best.
The rear is holding you back. You arent gonna launch for with a pegleg with a highway gear that you will be afraid of snapping.
high-mid 14's
I'm hoping that my 5.0 HO with GT-40P heads and a stock HO cam will run a 14.7-14.9. I'll have FMS headers but 2.25 exhaust and the stock HO intake for now (I ran out of money:hick: ). With the better exhaust you have I'm guessing a 14.4-14.6 time at about 90-95ish mph.
I know that rearend is weak and that the gear in there is not up to the task of drag racing. I have located a '88 TC 8.8 for $150. The 60+ year old guy I found it from uses a '87 TC for his "work truck" and does interior decorating as his income. This car is WHIPPED and has So much in the interior there is just enough room for him and he pulls his 15' trailer behind it!!!:dunno: The rearend is out of an auto, aren't those supposed to be 3.73's?
Yep, auto TCs are 3.73. Manuals are 3.55.
7.5" open-rear with 3.08's and an AOD with, I'm assuming, a stock convertor...depending on elevation and temperature 14.80's-15.30's and that's assuming you can get traction...it'll be a frosty day in hell before that combo runs down in the low-14's...maybe with a stick, a posi, and some 3.55's or better.
I agree. Any idea what your Cougar weighs?
bring your cat down here to ark city and we can race fox's we could have alittle get together at the dragstrip.
im wanting to take my turbo out,are you game 88turbo????
My other bird (sig) ran a 14.30 with a bad fuel pump(stock 1970) and a 13.70 with better fuel pump (electric). But I have a 351c so 14.00's might be kinda hard to hit. I have 3.73 gears c-6 trans and I thought it would be faster than it was. My 2.3 turbo stang ran 14.90's with 230k on the clock and a bad clutch, but you would be 14's with 8.8 3.73's in my book, but the gears a auto kill the posibilities.
But come to our (88turbo,1bdbird)area and we'll hang,i'll buy beer if your old enough. LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My car runs 100+ mph with 351,so 90's for you I would think????
turbostang ran 90mph in quarter.
I'm game come see me saturday :hick: I say bring it on ;)
14.9, if you are lucky... The gear and stock converter(assuming on that one) are going to kill any chance of a really good ET... I'd have give you another .1 or two if it was speed densety HO...
My stock(U/D pulleys, roller rockers, cat back) 5.0 5 speed Stang lost approx .25 at the strip with a Mass Air conversion... Swapped it back, ran the old numbers again(14.5s)...
My bird will hook in a carwash with the ET Streets!! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!
just kidding it will do about a 6inch squeal and shes done.
I would assume that the car is at least 3600-3700 ponds. I weighed my '89 GT at a truck stop and it came in at 3345 lbs. I'm sure the Cougar is at least 300-350 lbs. more.
Sounds do-able. I haven't been to Ark City since last year at the Rod Run. I know I was parked next to you during the "run" Weren't you parked across the street from Braum's? I had my Blue and silver '89 GT that day. Do you guys have a group or club?
we have been trying to get a club together, and yes I was parked next to a fox cougar across from braums lol should of come talk to me. I'm gonna get something together for a meet soon and I'll make a new post for it. glad your interested :D
