I dropped by the machine shop yesterday. Shop #1 definately took me for a ride. It wasn't even the same head I brought them originally. Here's the story:
In 2005 I assembled a new "best-of" motor for Layla, I dropped off a ported head to a MAchine Shop in Bellingham, WA (now closed) with whom I had done TONS of previous business, all excellent. In short, I got back what was supposed to be new cam bearings, lifters, seals, guides, and seals with a 3-angle valve job. What I actually got was a different head with just new intake seals.
What's bad:
3 Intake valves, 1 Exhaust valve
All of the exhaust seals were Ford original and broken (rode up the valve and squished back down on the pedestal)
Cam bearings are wiped
All 4 exhaust guides and 2 Intake guides are bad
So what am I to do? I have a heart-chamber d-port head that I would LOVE to send to Bo but I'd like my car to run before 2008. I have a 100K stocker head that's assembled. Should I throw the stocker on for now and send off the other to Bo and slowly buy all the parts or just leave the car apart until I get everything together?
Personally I would throw a decent cam (if you have one laying around) in that 100K head for now just to get it running. Yea, and send a head to Bo.
How long would it take to get a ported head from Bo?
Just put it together with what you have and drive the car.
I didn't want to keep the 2.3T in the silver car...BUT I want to drive it come next month-ish.
You can always R&R the head when/if you have Bo do one for you.
It would take Bo longer then usual to do mine (cause I HAVE to be different you know) but it's $$$ mostly. I'm barely back on my feat and can't justify that kind of output yet.
I think I'll slap the used head on and just drive the car!
I say put the used head on it and drive it whil you have the other head sent to Bo to get worked over...
