nah, it'd be too big if it made the browser resize the page..  or took over the page.

Quite a coincidence. My satellite high speed internet didn't work out, so I'm back on dialup at least until summer, when I can put a tower in and receive wireless high speed. Sig size is becoming an issue for me, (and I'll admit that mine, with two images, is a bit big too). It's not just a matter of internet speed, either - a sig that takes up half a 1280X1024 monitor is just plain excessive to have to scroll through, especially if the offender has posted several times. It also isn't helping the speed of this site, which is already slow enough even for high speed users without having to download a dozen full-page sigs in each thread.

Beau - your sig isn't too big, but it is about as big as any sig should be. A few members (*cough*84Fila*cough*) are pushing it. New rule's a-comin', as soon as I have the time to make the necessary settings and notify the troops.

For everyone that reads this: Consider this your preliminary warning that sig sizes will be regulated soon, to a size of about 600X300 (which is still plenty large). An official warning will be posted in the lounge when the limits are imminent.

How about a length reg too? There's at least 1 member who's sig is sooooo long I have to scroll 2 screens worth down to get the next post.

We appreciate everyone's enthusiasm and we encourage people to celebrate their cars. It's just that a) we have bandwidth issues to keep in mind, and b) because this hasn't been regulated from the board's inception, there are a few people that have really taken advantage of the signature thing. Generally we haven't said anything because, again, we've got a board that is unlike any other. But it's been getting pretty blatant lately. Therefore we have to establish a baseline for everyone to follow. Just for comparison, the NATO board allows only text signatures and no direct photo imbedding. Other boards are similar. So we're not taking your freedom away, just curtailing things a bit to be courteous for those people on dialup or with smaller monitors. We're also going to establish a maximum height so that people won't have to scroll down as much.

Just FYI...my sig is 400x129. And it's a modest size. So figure 1/3 larger and you're at the maximum size.

I like Chuck's sig. It's appropriately sized and I instantly know it's Chuck. I have about the most boring sig ever (I should change that huh?).

I have just redone mine.... again. But it changes every few weeks. They are all "me" and are the right size most of the time.

Before I went with High-speed "Lite", I put a few of the bigger sigs in my HOSTS file so they would never be downloaded. Only works with off-site pics though.
Here's a couple I never see:
88SptCoupe (animated 168k)
Bird351 (588k)

Can the settings be changed in the board software, to allow the sig to only show on a persons most recent post in the thread??? I know it's been implemented on some boards... Seems that would speed loading and save a bit of bandwidth... I see no reason a sig should be repeated multiple times...

I dunno, I'll have to look into it. I'd like to find a setting that limits sig sizes in general, too. vBulletin has a way of hiding the simplest of settings
