Title: Mark + Cougar = ????
Post by: capitlj on February 24, 2007, 04:21:09 PM
I wanted to know exactly how closely related these two cars are what all is compatable between the two.  I may have access to some parts and i need a lot of parts this summer mostly the interior parts and suspension I know it is 5-lug but is it bolt in.  Anything else that you guys could think of would be awesome.

You're pretty limited for exterior and interior parts. I suppose you could swap seats, steering wheel, and a few other things. I think most Mark VII parts are exclusive to that model.

Interior parts are all different, may fit but would look odd.
Engine and eec will work(wiring harness is very different).
Front rotors and calipers(spindles and arms are different).
Disc brake rear end although about 1.5" in total wider, will fit though.
Trans won't work unless a custom driveshaft is used(longer tailshaft).
No interchange in exterior body parts.
I think that about covers it.

Windshields, I believe will work.
The seats will.
The headlight/foglight switches are the same as our cars (1985-88).
That's about it though, for apples-to-apples parts interchange.

I was interested in the console and dash mostly and possibly 5-lug conversion parts.  i havent gotten a look at the car yet so i have no idea what looks about right.  I need seats but i'm going with the sn95 seats because I heard they are stronger.

For a 5 lug swap, use the Ranger rear axles and drums (2 driver side axles),and then for the front, use Mustang GT spindles and calipers and Aerostar front rotors with Mustang bearings. That's my opinion. There are difinately other ways. The Mark VII rear is wider which will push your wheels out further. The engine and computer are good for your car (as stated above).

The engine is gone already thats what the current owner bought the car for.  If thats the case I might just hope for the fan.

The Mark Vii used a clutch fan like our cars.
