Thanks to sleepertbird-87 for the inspiration...
I put a new FMIC in my car and about half of it is behind the bumper support...so I figured this'd be a good way to get some more air through it. I ditched the foglights a couple years ago, so I got some aluminum expanded metal to cover all the holes.
Whatcha think?
Looks good man, I really need to finish mine up
Great job !!! What did you use to cut the cover with?
Heh, I knew that question would come up...
It was a pain in the ass. In retrospect, probably woulda been a lot easier with a sabre saw.
I took a half inch drill bit, drilled the corners, and used a hacksaw blade to cut across the top, sides, and bottom (it was slow going).
Then I went over the edges with a carbide burr in a die grider (with the speed turned down) and some files to flatten them out.
Actually came out really nice, the edges are all pretty straight.
The cut out looks great.
The mesh however is a little to "dense". How much airflow goes through there? The polish is also a little ricey, I prefer satin or black but that's just me. More concerned with blockage on yours...
Dense? No, it's not, trust me...just looks that way in the pics due to the reflection and whatnot. It's pretty open.
I have to admit,I usually don't like the mesh, but, for some reason,it looks "right" the way you did it.I'm not saying that to make you feel good,it really does look good.I'm sticking with non-factory fog lights in mine.I like them.I get wicked bright lights and use them when people are driving towards me with their bright lights on.It gets them pretty quick.LOL.Again,nice work.
I'm actually putting some driving lights behind the mesh in the center opening (3 1/4" round ones), never cared for the stock foglights so much, and I've always wanted something to illuminate further down the road. These ones should fit the bill nicely, and if the stock 55W bulbs aren't enough I can always step up to 100 watters. I'm also gonna wire them to come on with my high beams. No muss, no fuss.
I think part of what makes it look "right" is the fact that if you cut out that center area where the license plate was, it's almost EXACTLY the same height as the fog light openings. So it looks like it's supposed to be there.
Also I thought about painting the mesh black but eh...I kinda prefer the contrast that the aluminum color gives me.
I have a pair of hella ff75 driving lights that outshine my high beams. I was thinking of aiming them up and left just for this.
Round lights would be nice.I had two sets of the smaller round light (two on each side) in mine until the wreck.I'm looking at the options now.I have time to figure it out.
Nice idea bhazard.
Cool :birdsmily:
WOW!, AMAZING JOB, especially in the center of the bumper cover, a real "master" job, very good looking...

Dom.
