Title: How do I get rid of this?
Post by: V8Demon on January 16, 2005, 03:10:32 PM
Hey all,
I have a .dll file that is part of a spyware program that I am unable to remove.  I've gotten the other components off, however when I try removing this particular file Windows states that it is being used by other files.  The file name is sfbho.dll and was in a folder named Sidefind that had been created in my Program files directory.  Oh yeah my OS is Windows XP

oh yeah, forgot I was going to reply to this. Was in the middle of it when my monitor started...doing weird things. Threw my old 17" on and plugged other in on floor, its working fine again :wtf: It better not die after the warranty's up.

ANYWAYS, try booting into safe mode to remove it. It'll most likely work.

You need to restart in safe mode because more than likely its starting up as a system process so it wont let you delete it. If you have win xp or 2000 just press F8 when you see the windows logo and select safe mode with networking.

Otherwise download Process Explorer: http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/procexp.shtml
Then you can check if it is running as a process or as part of explorer.exe and stop it so you can then delete it.

Thank all.  Safe mode did it.  Been a long time since I've actually used the old syle DOS command prompt :grinno:
