There are some quick tests in the 84 shop manual that I have never used. But they sound like they could be useful.
1. Computed timing check:
For two minutes after the the KOER outputs it's last code, the timing should be base time plus 20 BTDC. 10+20=30
2. Continuous Monitor Mode (Wiggle Test)
If you have an intermittent CM code that doesn't show up running KOEO or KOER test.
Reset CM codes.
KOEO- With self test deactivated (no jumper) turn ignition to run position. You are now in continuous monitor (wiggle) mode. Wiggle and tap on stuff in the area of the CM code you are trying to recreate. The STO will be activated if a fault is detected. A fault is indicated when the voltage deflection is 10.5 v or greater.
KOER- With self test activated (jumper on) start engine. Two minutes after the last code 11 the system enters Continuous Monitor (wiggle) mode. Same deal as above wiggle and tap.
3. Output State Check: Toggle all EEC output actuators on/off
After KOEO completes outputing its codes, A brief WOT turns actuators on, another WOT turns them off, another turns them on, ect.
Thats good stuff there!
another good "wiggle test" is to put your radio on AM band
KOER or KOEO,, wiggle connections of area you are troubleshooting
Static interferance will sound in the speakers when intermittant or faulty connections are located.
