i finally got the old girl running as it was just a burned fuse link (shut up) but now i got to looking and i have a friggin birds nest of fuse links. is there any way to make an underhood fusebox so i dont have to dig around for which wire is what?
i guess you could,, but fuses dont really dissipate wattages easily without blowing. its kinda like why there isnt a fuse for power seats, theres a thermal fuse or resetting circuit breaker instead.
those fuse links dont really have a consistant enough current draw to establish which size fuse to use. That being the case, the only real fuse would be the max wattage,, that again being the case, is the reason for the smaller guage wire to act as a fuse.
I fully understand what Jcassity says but in newer cars they have the fuse block under the hood. Some of those bigger fuses are actually fuse links. I know that is what the package says. It I'm sure there is some way to put a different fuse line in there besides the old wire type. Just gotta be smart about it and not go over board so things fry and catch on fire.
I replaced a few links, with fusible link wire rated for differrent amps, especially alternator ones, without problems,on many cars.
Of course if theres a short it won't matter much.I think over time they degrade.
