Title: Widest tire/wheel combo
Post by: 88FoxBird on February 12, 2007, 05:23:33 PM
Been asked a hundred times I know. I did a search and kinda got what I was looking for but not quite. I want know what the widest wheel and tire combo will fit in the back of a 87 Cougar with quad shocks. I'm thinking maybe 275/50/15 on a 15x8 but I'm not sure.

Why do you want to keep the quad shocks?

325/50/15 15x10 wheel with a 6.0 to 6.5 backspace would be the absolute max (no quads and possibly roll the lips) Ive got a pair of them just waiting on the wheels to get them on the car.

So 305's fit no problem? :D

Did you know GTO guys have to roll their fenders for 275's? Sad isn't it. I can stuff a 325 in a 190HP TBird from 20 years ago without tubs, and they can't go bigger then 275 on a 04-06 with 400HP.

That is sad, I thought that they would come with a 275/40/17, the fourth-gen F-bodys did.

245/50/17 or 235/45/18 depending on wheels stock. And those both rub in the front. 275 is the absolute biggest in the rear. See why IRS SUCKS!!

Well,I now know that 255/40 17's fit in the rear just fine with quads, and 245/40 17's up front. No rubbing or problems that I can see.I don't have limiters for steering or spacers.

O.K.,I take that back,I just noticed I need about 1/8 spacer on the front.I have the tiniest amount of room between the strut and tire.Still not rubbing, though,so,they technically do fit.I've driven all over town with no worries at all.I thought that the steering limiters would be necessasary, but they're not.I love 'em.
