When I drop the tranny for a clutch Im sure that I will find the shifter is wore out.
What are my choices for a replacement, or are there rebuild kits for them?
I like the stocker just fine, but I dont guess Ford still services them or there is an aftermarket equivelent.
There are as many aftermarket shifter options for the T-5 as there are red 5.0 Mustangs.....
I like the Pro 5.0 myself.
Some also allow for the use of the stock shifter handle as well.
Lovin my Steeda Tri-Ax - I'm sure most aftermarket units are about the same though, meaning they are all awesome compared to stockers.
When I was doing the T5 swap I read up on a few Mustang forums for which shifter to choose. Most seemed to recommend the MGW (http://"http://www.mgwltd.com/"), Steeda Tri-Ax, or the Pro 5.0 (in that order). I bought the MGW, and I love it. The pivoting shifter handle is a great addition, but is difficult to fit under the stock shifter boot. That's the only complaint I have with it.
I run a tri-ax, with the MGW adjustable shift handle: http://www.mgwltd.com/mustang_shift_handle.shtml
i love it, it took a while to get used to, because it sweeps the shifter back a little, but once i got used to it, i fell in love with it.
I have a UPR Blue Thunder, which I've had for I think 6, almost 7 years now. Probably gonna have to replace it before too long as it's all full of dirt and gunk. However, it's been a great shifter and the reason I got it was because I was able to buy it new for so much less than the other brands cost. At the time I got it, the Blu Thunder was pretty much a direct Tri-Ax ripoff, but I think they've changed the design since then.
I'm also using a modified (cut, shortened, changed angle a bit, rewelded) stock handle on it. Made it so that it angles back toward me more than the handle that came with the shifter, I didn't care for it that one so much.
I'm happy with my Pro 5.0. I've never tried any of the others so I cant compare it to them but it's light years beyond the stocker. There's no buzz and it's very precise. I'm using the handle that came with the shifter which is positioned fine for me.
