Hello, I wish to mount 17x9s to an 86 Cougar 5.0 and plan to use 245/55 tires. What size spacers will I need and do I need new lugs? Can anyone recommend a vendor for the spacers? Thanks.
I have 17x9's on my 88 TC didnt need a spacer
Everything depends on the backspacing of your wheels and your brake setup.
Here's some detail on the wheels: (17x9" 2006 2007SHELBY COBRA / GT-500 style GT500 chrome aluminum wheels, in Ford's 4x4.25" lug pattern, +18mm offset). Everything on the Cougar is stock. Does that help?

I'm wanting to buy a set of 17x9 wheels (Cobra R) and they come with 255/40R17's.I hope they work. What do you think? The wheels are made for the Fox mustang.
Then they will work just fine. Fit will be just about the same.
Awesome.I'm ordering them, and not lookin' back !!! LOL.
I don't know about 245/55 I would go with something with less sidewall like a 245/45. Maybe wider in the back. Those GT500 wheels will look awsome I bet. Does anyone have a picture with these on a fox T-bird?
I got some cheap spacers from JCWhitney that are 1/8" thick and I have two on each front wheel. I wish I could have avoided using that much spacer, hopefully the TC spindles will help somehow.
These are the wheels I have:

Did you have to install longer lug bolts?
Thanks everyone for the feedback. Is the 245/45 a personnal preferance or do you think there might be clearance issues with the 245/55?
The wheels I'm buying come with 255/45R17 tires already mounted and balanced.$888.00 to the door. Not bad.
Here they are on a Cougar (like this guy has). Probably pretty similar on a Tbird. ;)
Nice wheels.I just saw a set for 4 lug cars on E-bay.By the way, steering limiters are at Ford, part # N804842-S.$3.84 each.
No, I was afraid I might have to, but nope.
I'm not sure but a 55 might be close to the fender lip on the front, the 255/40s on mine at stock ride height could likely hit if there was a big enough bump in the road. The rear shouldn't be a problem.
This is just from Jeg's
