Title: Shocks
Post by: TucanSam on January 26, 2007, 05:29:51 PM
Any idea if 2005+ Mustang shocks will work on the rear of my 86TC? They are longer than 94-04 shocks and I can get them all day long dirt cheap.

Dunno.  No one has tried.

If you can get them dirt cheap, try them out and let the rest of us know.

The 05s are 20" from the lower eye to the bottom of the lower washer at the top.

How about the Bird shocks?

Also didn't mention these are off an 84 bird. Isn't there a difference in shocks from 84-85 on?

Chuck the link you posted doesnt state how the shocks were measured.  Was it from the lower eye to the tip of the threaded rod, or from the lower eye to the end of the shock body.

I know for a fact that the 05+ shocks uncompressed are longer than Fox or SN95 shocks.

Steeda sells them for $40 a set.  The 05+ guys sell them for <$20 just to get rid of them.  Thats a great price for oem GT shocks.

Im going to pick up 2 or 3 sets, 1 for the Bird, 2 for spares.

Im going with late SN95 oem springs, S197 shocks, unsure on struts.  Once I gather all the bits and pieces I will post pics.

Im also buying a take-off GT shift  for $9.99, my stocker is wore out, I hope I can make it fit, they look great,

Are the SN95 springs longer?? Not that I need them now, but an interesting bit of info. Yes, keep us informed about the 05' shocks. I still need to get shocks for my beasty :D and that would possibly open up some options for me.

The set of SN95 springs I have are 14 and 12.5in long, they are new and have never been installed.  I bought them off a guy who was going to put them on his Fox but changed his mind.

I think that is within 1in of the T-Birds spring sizes.

XR3C-5560-FA and XR33-5310-RA

As soon as the shocks arrive I will do an install and comparison pics.
