I’m having an issue with a non Tbird car (Chevy van) I was hoping someone could help with.
If the clearcoat starts peeling in an inconspicuous area, in this case the roof, can it be sanded and just reclearcoated, or do you have to repaint the entire area?
That depends upon how far down it is exposed. If you sand and find you're still hitting color then it can probably be re-cleared, if you run into something that's not the body color though (probably primer) then it will need resprayed with color too. My Chevy van is like this too. In addition to having rusted rockers, exhaust falling apart, broken windshield, bad window motors, no guages except speedo, and no heat.
What kinda van do you have? The whole roof on my mothers safari van was peeling and coated with 2-3 shades of peeling blue spraypaint :disappoin but it was a repaint. I had the same problem on my hyundai stellar the hood, roof, trunk were all peeling. I scratched off all the loose stuff and just buffed it so it looked a lil better but the next time I saw it (3 years later at the wrecker) it looked just as bad as before
I have a friend who paints and I beleive he said that in this case you can reclear it, but you have to reclear the entire panel.
