Title: need opinions, not bird related
Post by: daboss351 on January 23, 2007, 10:22:47 PM
Ok my mustang has a t-5 in it from a 85 gt. Not the best trans by far for the 351w, but it works as long as its not beat. I have an original 4 speed, that i know they are worth good money. Should i sell the trans, and put the money into the car, or do you think it would be in my best intrest to get that t-5 out of it. I know for a fact i might beat on it alittel and don't wanna be stranded somewhere. Any opinions would be greatly apreciated. Im starting to get more concered since, im getting my permit in april, and my father said i can have the car as my first so im extactic

the t5 should be fine. i used a 4cyl version behind a 302 for 2 yrs, and it never gave me any problems. depends on how much torque you put through it. my 302 was making around 220 rwtq. a 4sp and 4.11 gears is gonna kill you in gas, if you drive it on the street a lot.

its running a 4.10 posi right now, its a warmed up 351, were talking about 400tq, but the 4.10's are coming out(starting to make noise), and 3.55's are going in. its gonna be my everyday car, so i want reliablity, and better gas milage, would the lose of a 5th gear make a lot of difference. I am for a fact taking the 700cfm off for a 550 demon, new pump and filter, and many things to make it as reliable as possible, and still be able to whoop the camaro's and firebirds, and imports around my house

Agreed.  For daily use, a 5 speed would be of utmost benefit.
