Title: Driveshaft the same for 7.5 to 8.8 swap?
Post by: SRBird on January 20, 2007, 06:48:56 PM
I'm swapping rear ends on my 87. Are there any driveshaft concerns for the 7.5" Tbird to 8.8 XR7 swap? Does existing driveshaft fit? Need help on this before tear down. Thanks.

Thanks jcassity. I had looked at that and other posts, which probably convinced me to go the extra (many) miles to find an 88 XR7 complete rear end. Now I though I was set, and assumed it'll fit right in. However, on one of the posts were rear end diagrams with dimensions table that showed driveshaft  to axle centerline dimensions differing. It shows 7.5" = 9.52 and 8.8" = 9.90. Does .38 make a difference? I kind of suspect not since all the posts I've read related to 7.5 to 8.8 swaps, don't make mention of driveshaft mods or swaps. I guess I'm looking for confirmation or peace of mind LOL.

By the way, Where do these diagrams come from? Where can I look them up? I'd like to see the rest of the dimensions table and any other diagram. (I believe they were originally posted by JeremyB).

Sleeper, I hope "yes" refers to "existing driveshaft fits".
