Im trying to instal my amp kit.. but im not sure where to run the power wire from the battery to the truck area where my amp is located.. is there a hole i can put it through or do i have to drill one?? and if i have to drill where is the best location.. thanx guys :cougarsmily:
i'm going to assume you have an 87-88, but the 83-86 years are prolly the same. there's a rubber seal in the firewall on the driver's side. i ran my power through the seal itself to keep it from chafing on the metal, then ran it under my carpet to the trunk. i dunno if you know this, but run the speaker wires on the opposite side as the power wire to prevent interference.
or you can run it by the windshield and through the door jam then down along side your seat. That way you bypass the firewall all together! Really isn't easier than that!
I'll give them a try and i'll let you know how it goes.. thanx guyz.. oh its a 89 cougar btw.. :cougarsmily:
it's easier, but i'd hate being able to see it.
i realy wouldnt recomend this. it looks ghetto and subjects the cable to more cable rub than a power wire realy needs to experiance. on an auto car, the rubber bung in the firewall is perfect. for your stick guys thats where the clutch cable goes through. usually, i run a snake (old car radio antenna works as there are no sharp spots to cause any damage) right through the same bung that the harness goes through. eh, im pretty sure there is a bung with wires going through it on the drivers side of the fox cars. i could be wrong, i forget allready. my mark viii and halfbreed cobra both did so i used that spot.
couldn't find any holes in the firewall.. so i just drilled a hole through there and put the wire through.. i hope it'll be alright..
I'm with everyone else here and put it through the rubber piece in the clutch cable hole the first time. After the 5 speed swap, I drilled my own hole. Make sure you put a rubber grommet or something around the power wire after you install it. You wouldn't want the metal to cut through the wire and short out, although the fuse would blow first.
depending on where the fuse is, some people are stupid enough to put the fuse in the trunk or depend on the amp fuse as the sole provider of circuit protection.
