Title: Anyone do aftermarket gauges in an 83?
Post by: sum_weirdo on January 13, 2007, 10:18:30 PM
I've been thinking about adding gauges for a while now and gumby's post got me thinking about it some more.  My stock cluster only has a gas gauge and speedometer, kinda primitive.  Has anyone else modified an 83 cluster?  If so what did you do about the gear indicator?

Not really aftermarket but  I  did pull my factory faces and scaned them to make my own White faces. I'll get some pics up for you in a little while. I did put a pillar pod with 2 gauges in it. This is with a factory 84 turbo coupe cluster. Sound like you have the base cluster not much for those I bet. But here are mine any way. These are scans that have been inverted and colored to my liking. I printed them out on stick backed photo paper then covered them in clear coat. They have been on the car for about a year or more and they haven't faded. Hope you like what I have done.

An upgrade for that woudl be to do a Turbocoupe cluster iwth the tach and all. Try Mike Pinto (Aerobird motorsports), I think he has one.
Depends on how much you want to spend, you could do a cluster with Autometers, but looking at money there.
I found a canadian speedometer on ebay for the early style gauges, that goes to 110. Keep your eyes open for stuff like that, basically going to have to make something. I also have two gauges in an a-pillar pod, and a 3 3/8" tach on the column. HTH

I figured I would drag this thread up rather than starting a new one.  Has anyone put Autometer gauges in a 83-84 car specifically replacing the existing gauge cluster?  I want to get a 160mph speedo and tack in the dash if possible.  Pictures or renderings would be awesome.  Wiring is not a concern or fabrication for the most part as I am decent at both.
