Greetings all
First off let me start off by saying this is a killer site!
The concern with my vehicle (88 sc) is the aod shifts too soon to soft and the shifts seem all wrong. I am in the process of installing a TCI shift kit and came across this forum right in the middle of the install. After some research, I saw where Eric advised the trans-go or bauman shift kits. My TCI kit only came a few drill bits, 2 springs, a block rod, and a small plug. The valve body is basically finished, but I want to put a larger servo and a different govenor on it. These other shift kits seem to have more springs(poss. for accumulators) and shift point recalibrations. I don't believe my kit offers this, even though I set it up for street/strip. My question is can I put some of these other shift kits in to help it shift harder and stay in gear longer? I am not worried about the shifts being too harsh:rollin: I would like to see shifts around 5500 if possible. Please feel free to offer suggestions of how your shift kits worked and what they were trying to accomplish with the mod.
Many thanks,
Mike
What the hell is an 88 SC?
Welcome aboard!
The TransGo kit has the governor you are looking for. You will see 5500 and more depending on your adjustments. I have this one and am quite happy with it.
What exactly do you mean by you have an 88SC though? If you have a T-bird with a supercharged 3.8 it's either an 89-95 or someone swapped one into your car before you got it. You have my curiosity....Post pics when possible!
And welcome again!
:sorry:
No it's not an exotic swap like that or anything. It's looks like a po$, but it has a paxton sn2000 bolted on. I can;t get into the boost and the tranny hates it:mad: I guess my shift kit was the wrong buy/install.:dunno: What do you think would happen if I installed the whole transgo shift kit or is the governor separate?
Thanks,
Mike
Now you HAVE to post pics!
You can order the governor separate. TransGo recommends that it not be used by itself (i.e. no shift kit at all and install the governor) I'm not sure what would happen if you installed the governor with a different brand of shift kit. You might want to call a transmission specialist to answer that question.
Here's a link for just the governor: http://www.transmissionpartsusa.com/AOD_FIOD_transmission_governor_kit_p/500-27930hirv.htm
You probably wouldn't want to see pics, even if I had a camera. It's definately more go than show and more slow than go:rollin: :rollin:
Computer chat newbie, I don't know sigs, quotes and posting yet. The motor puts out ok, but the tranny is all wrong. I hope this :bs: shift kit I installed does something. By the way what's with the pickle?:rollin:
I'm interested in the business end of this car because I've never seen a paxton on an older 3.8 before. It's something new to me. We have a member who has had a newer factory supercharged 3.8 dropped into his car, but this is different. I'm curious aboutyour computer setup. Speed density? mass air? Are you running and FMU? details, please:grinno:
As far as the pickle. I took the picture on vacation.....Funny you should mention it. It became a point of interest in a "conversation" I had with someone on here the other day.
Here's when the pickle started: http://www.foxtbirdcougarforums.com/showthread.php?t=7188

Cool, I just checked out your car. Looks good and fast too! Are you running s.o. bottom end too? Thanks for the link. I will try to install the trans go kit also. What's the worst that can happen. lol. 13.6's before the mods? awesome. Get those 12's even better. I will try the track one day and probably piss off everyone when my po$ blows and oils the track. lol.
The car was an HO before the new stuff on it. The cam I had in it before was installed by the previous owner. It was a great cam and had awesome midrange punch. It fell off around 5000 RPM. Unfortunately when I pulled it out it had ABSOLUTELY NO MARKINGS on it to identify it or what company it was from. It's actually at a friend's place in a box now. Maybe I'll measure it up one day......
:sorry:
5.0 sc paxton sn2000(1psi/per1k), s.o. bottom. speed density, ho cam -4, ho intake/tb, 19# inj.w/fmu (hopefully 42#s one day with tweecer) stock e7's, svo chain, 255 lph. Factory exhaust :rollin: Maybe a 125 of the juice next.   Rest of car po$. :pbb: Don't know how to sig and all that.
Is it an 86 ho? I don't see the reliefs. That car has to be fast. I could only compete with the juice, then after blows oh well.
They are flat-tops. They're not original though. They are forged.
Yeah, t-bird kid lived up to his name! Wait, on 2nd thought, I've met 3 year old "kids" with more integrity than he. What a loser.
so bottom + boost + the juice = boom (even with the tweecer tune)
