I own a 94 cougar 3.8 and ive always wanted to put a 5.0 in it. luckily i was able to find a 93 cougar 5.0 and i plan on swapping engines. my main concern is the wiring harness. i know i will need to swap the computer, but do i need the wiring harness from the 93 5.0? and will i need the differential from the 5.0 as well? any help would be greatly appreciated.
I would grab the 5.0 harness and all others too that you can... might make things easier, your rear diff should hold up... not sure
You're going to need to do something with the motor mounts, at least on one side. I've been digging into it on the MN-12's and you're going to run into differences between the 93 and 94 MY.
so are the mounts different styles or are they spaced differently?
Yes.
I don't know all the details yet, but you will probably have to use the 5.0 upper brackets and the isolators and mate them to the 94 lower brackets.
I know there was a mid-year change in 92 to one of the lower mounts and then when they went to the 4.6 in 94 and changed the K-member, they changed again.
im wondering if i get mounts from a 4.6 then maybe they will line up with the 5.0 since they are both V8s. well i need to do some more research. but thanks for the imput thus far chuck, if you hear anymore let me know. thank you.
Use what I mentioned. The block brackets from the 5.0 with either set of isolators and the lower brackets from your 3.8. Should work fine.
