(Chrome) Shifter, Tilt, and Ignition key. The Ignition begins to malfunction during a drive. I was told that this can start fires, and melting.

You can get a steering column from a Cougar or T-Bird at a boneyard and swap it in.There are a few guys selling parts from these cars in the classifieds.I'm sure someone will have one.If not,I see them on E-Bay from time to time. There are a few people on E-bay parting these cars out.Contact them and tell them what you want and they'll sell it to you.I've not seen a chrome shifter unless you go with a B&M Hammer shifter or something like that.As far as your ignition causing you problems, have you replaced the ignition switch (not the tumbler with the key) yet? It's under the plastic column covers right in front of the ignition tumbler. It has two screws holding it on and a big plug. That may be your ignition problem, and they are affordable at any parts store.
