Title: Pulling a 5.0
Post by: Tbird232ci on December 30, 2006, 06:26:07 PM
This coming weekend, or next weekend, I may be pulling a junkyard 5.0

My reason for posting this thread, is im just looking for some tips, tricks, etc. Im not worried about the harness, so most of that will be cut. Any tricks, or tools to make the job easier?

If possible to save time, pull the tranny too.  Either that or bring 2 12" long extensions to get over the tranny and take the bellhousing bolts out.  Either that or remove the cross member and lower the back of the motor to gain better access.  Sometimes it is easier to pull the headers off the motor and leave them attached to the exhaust system, (if the headers bolts are really coroded).

The rest is pretty much basic.

I'd unbolt or cut the exhaust pipes (leave the headers on),unbolt the motor mounts, remove the radiator, remove the hoses if they are good (don't waste good parts you may use later),remove the driveshaft, and unplug everything and pull the engine and tranny as a unit. It's less time to pull it all.

i was gonna say , bring a car battery and some gas in a spray bottle to start up your donor.

also a chordless sawzal (sp) for exhaust.
