I was curious if there is an available windshield for the 83-86 tbird/cougars with the antenna in the windshield. i remember my mom's 78 firebird formula 400 having the 2 wires in the windshield and wondered if they are available for the cougars and tbirds?
When I looked for a new windshield for my T-bird, I've never saw any available with the internal antenea. Check at a glass replacement shop if you haven't already done so.
I had a couple of cars with those and really didn't care for them. It could've been where I lived at the time because the reception sucked.
I have never seen, found, or heard of one of those for our cars. The only options I've ever seen is with or without the top gradiated tint. That's what glass shops listed, anyhow...don't recall seeing a non-tinted windshield on a car before though. It was more money for one of those IIRC. Anyway...you're out of luck for a factory-style in-windshield antenna.
I can't recall ever seeing the in windsheild anntenna in any ford. I do recall seeing it on many Gm cars. I just had my windsheild replaced back in october.It cost me like $150 installed. They even came to the house. THe only options they gave me was with or without tint.
I believe Dakota digital makes an antenna that hides along the top of your windshield at the edge of the headliner.
70-71 T-birds had a windshield anntenna, it won't fit our cars though. So Ford had at least one car that I know of that had a windshield antenna.
alright... just curious to see what options would be available... i like the windshield antenna due to the fact its low visibility... can get rid of the big external antenna for a cleaner look
If your shopping for a new windsheild do yourself and your country a favor and get glass made in the USA, I've only found one shop in town that uses only USA made glass and adhesives and he will get within $50 of the chinese in most cases.
It is stronger, resists chips better, and more money stays in the country.

I never see this kind of antenna in any Ford's and Chryco cars, only in the GM's...
Last year I discarded the antenna on the Right fender of My Bird, and purchased an amplified antenna on ebay, it look like a remote starter antenna, and work great...

i guess ill have to figure out some neat lil trick..... maybe i can figure out a set up that can be installed on a rear window....... or some hidden anntenna...... i know my neighbor's 04 jeep wrangler is spose to have the antenna on the 1/4 by the windshield/door area... its just got a plug there... reception is great tho with the antenna layin inside the dash

The idea is great, I see this under the top of a few GM van's and others I don't remember, BUT along the windshield at the edge of the headliner on a 83-86 Birds,euhhh!!!, it's a steel finition here, and this will make a kind of Farhaday cage, but It will wors, but the reception will be very decreased, no?...

On my '01 Grand Marquis the rear window defroster grid also serves as the radio antenna.
There is an "isolator module" that seperates the antenna signal from the defroster power.
The AM antenna is the defroster grid and the FM antenna is a conductive tracing above the defroster grid.
It works just fine. It's an amplified antenna. I had one in the ex's '87 XR4Ti (antenna was in the rear window...and dead).
No issues with it whatsoever.
