Title: TECH: 87 t/c with 86 k member and springs
Post by: SLEEPER T-BIRD 87 on December 26, 2006, 11:43:29 PM
ok guys i got my 87 back together and drove it home tonight but it is sitting awfull awfull low.

Setup

86 k member

86 control arms

87 t/c spindles with 84 svo rotors

stock 86 t/c springs

87-93 mustang struts with t/c mounts

Why would the car sit 3" or so lower in my 87 then they did in the 86?

The stock T/C 4cyl springs in my 86' T/C were pretty darn worn too, but mine were also cut 1 coil.
In you car, did you have the V8 in the 86' as well?? it shouldn't have dropped between cars if that was the case, but the t/c springs aren't as heavy as the springs in a 86' V8 car either.

What parts are going to be available?? How's the front bumper cover and header panel???? :D

East Ridge.......That's just NW of Chattanooga isn't it?? I used to live in Collegedale.

I would go with that. What happened to your 87 springs?

Struts have Nothing to do with ride height... Springs are likely the culprit...  Apparently the combo of heavier car and engine is too much for the '86 springs... If you had used later control arms, I'd say maybe the spring pockets were deeper...

I'm very happy with the height of my '88 TC. With the 5.0 and AOD, sets about 3/4"-7/8" lower than a stock '87-'88 TC

The 87 is probly real close to the same weight the whole suspension sans spindles is from the 86 t/c I jusy put it all in my 87. i will try to post some pics up tonight it sits as low if not lower then the 88 5.0 car i had with the springs cut 2 coils.

Me either - my 5.0 with 87 TC springs sits lower than that (smaller fender gap, and that's with 225/60R15 tires)
