Title: ?? 5.0 Thundercat Cluster vs. 86-88 TC Cluster
Post by: Ether947 on December 18, 2006, 09:05:15 PM
Got another V8 Bird/Cat question. Will the v8 cluster similar to the 86-88 TCs plug right into place? Say if you do a 5.0 swap to a TC and I don't want that silly boost gauge anymore or mod the Tach to function properly can I just grab one from a v8 Thundercat and slap it in and roll out? :grinno:

Also what years would I be looking for? 86-88? Thanks. Geez, I didn't realize how stoopid I was about non-TC models. :dunce:

Thanks.

You want an buttstuffog tach for a v8 car out of an 88.. I believe this was the only year for buttstuffog on a v8.  And the only issue has to do with the check engine light and how its wired in the tc as apposed to a sport.. I believe the sport has it in the curcuit plastic thing on the back where as a tc has it on a seperate piggy back harness.  Personally I would get the tach out of a sport and drop it in your cluster..

Now do you need a tach then?

Kinda off topic, but CougarSE, could you elaborate more on the check engine light deal?  I suppose what you're talking abotu doesn't apply to me but:

I did a 5.0 swap in my 88 TC (89 mustang wiring and computer, modded my stock tach) but I never got everything finished up.  One thing I haven't figured out yet is how to get my check engine light working...  Any clue?

Also, a note for you Ether947, if you're going with a HO setup, I believe the v8 sport tach doesn't read quite as high as you'd probably want...  this is why I opted to mod my TC gauge...
