ok, this is opposite of another thread, but here goes. would the interior( dash, console, front seats, door panels) from a 94 cougar ls fit into an 86 cougar ls? this may sound stupid to some, but i love the exterior of my car, but hate the inside. however, i had a 94 that was wrecked and i loved the interior. does anyone know if this has been attempted? i know even if it fit, the electrical issues would be a nightmare, but to me, that would be almost the perfect Cougar. please share any ideas.
It is too wide for a Fox interior. It would have to be cut, top to bottom, and spliced somewhere. I've seen a '79 Thunderbird with a '94-97 interior. You'd think that big ol' land yacht would have been wide enough to accommodate the MN12 dash but alas, it was not. The cut/splice was right down the middle of the passenger air bag. It wasn't the most professional looking IMO but I admired the spirit of the swap. Best I can say is, measure measure measure.
Far as getting everything to work, I would think that wouldn't be too bad. Manual HVAC controls would be easy, using a Mustang or Taurus style rotary panel. Radio is 1 DIN size. Gauges...some shop manuals would get you squared away there. The steering column would kinda suck though...it's square on an MN12, and I don't know if the covers would transfer to a Fox column. Or, conversely, if the column would fit into a Fox. And then there's the floor shifter fiasco...on MN12's they were set further back into the transmission tunnel.
I'm not saying it can't be done but it will definitely present plenty of issues along the way.
The HVAC panels in the MN12 are clip in like the radio. Do the newer mustangs have clip in style panels too or do they bolt in?
a buddy of mine has a 98 and they are clip in just like the radio.
I think it would be just as cool but slightly less...troublesome...to try and fit a '94-'04 Mustang interior in an '86 Cougar.
would the dimensions be similar? that would kick ass.
