ive been thinking of giving the truck away and buying a mazda 6. locally they seem to be holding value alright. anyone own one? id be looking for the v6/5 speed. just looking for opinions on these. i need something i can pack my 2 kids in. something that i can drive in the snow as well as something the woman can tolerate as well....it would be my daily commuter. i put a ton of miles on my dd as im in construction.
other cars i considered:
mazda 3
srt4 neon lol
sxt neon ugh!
subaru (cant afford a wrx sti though)
anything else that could be had somewhat cheep (with the 6 and the wrx at the top) and not be a total shiznitbox. im deffinetly all done with trucks, never again. deffinetly open to suggestions.
thanks guys....john
Neons aren't bad. My sister bought an sxt new in 2002 and it now has almost 80k on it. Other than typical maintenence, the only problems shes had with it were..
1. power window motor ped on the driver's door at 15k- replaced under warrenty
2. tie rods at around 75k - she worked in the city for 3.5 years and the roads took their toll.
I found it a little awkward to step right into but once you drive it for a few days, that's gone. It's been a great reliable car.
The wife drives an 05 Mazda 6 and the car is actually pretty sweet. It has the V6 and stick and the car has held up very well. I dont really drive it much but the car definatly has some "zoom-zoom". The car has about 70k kms on it and other than regular maintenence we have done nothing to it. Other than the get up and go the interior is my favorite part...black leather etc etc..quite an impressive car, I would buy another one. Besides its still kinda sorta a Ford
I've got an '05 SXT that I've put 47k on since May of '05 and it's been ed reliable at least when you put it up against a 20 year old car. Since I bought it it's only had 2 tires put on (needs 2 more for the back) and a front-end alignment. Resale on 'em is for shiznit, so I'd buy a used one (that's probably all you can find now anyway). But if you're willing to spend a bit more, you can get an SRT with about 90 more horses, ABS and leather.
my dad just got an 06 mazda speed 6 turbo 2.3t all wheel drive. it kicks ass!
My parents have a blue mazda V6 with the slap shift... It will hull balls! Anyway, it's needed no work at all and is a great car. Awesome sound system in it from the factory and it looks great. I highly encourage getting one.
The 6 is a good car and a lot roomier than an WRX or a neon. If you get a subie the outback/legacy is the way to go.
If you can wait, the 6 will eventually have the new Duratec 35 engine. 265 horses...
Any idea when they will be doing that?
Do you know if they will offer a traditional manual with it?
My wife and I were looking at 6's just yesterday, I kept trying to get her to look at a Fusion, but she just doesn't like them. So I thought I would show her one of the other CD3 platform cars and she really liked the look of the 6.
Haven't the SRT's had problems with oil spilling? Or has Chrysler actually taken steps to correct the problem? I personally want a Mazda Speed 6
I like these specs
Engine Type 2.3L DOHC 16-valve I4 with Turbo
Horsepower, SAE net 270 @ 5500 rpm
torque, SAEnet (lb/ft) 280 @ 3000 rpm
nice guys thanks a ton!
i dunno, ill be looking for something in the spring. likely ill buy something used cause i have an uncle in the bizz and i know i can get a decent deal. still, that 265 hp is awefully tempting. doesnt the current 6 have 220 hp? i dont know what it is about the 6, it just always catches my eye. sweet little rides.
I don't hang out on SRTForums, but I've never heard of the oil problem you speak of.
PS - I'm not really endorsing the Neon SXT, just sharing my experience with mine. I'd go for the 6 if you can get it. Resale and residual value on the Neon is for poop.
well. the neon id chose as a cheap, throwaway beater. my gfs gf had one and it wasnt too repulsive. if i can score a 6 the way that i want it would be for a little more longevity. one things for sure, i cant stand my little ranger anymore. ew...
thanks again guys!
I dunno when, I just read that the Duratec 35 is going to completely supplant the 3.0 (as well as the 4.0 in the Mustang)
2.3L DOHC 16-valve 4-cylinder with VVT
Horsepower, SAE net 156 @ 6500 rpm
Torque, SAE net (lb./ft.) 154 @ 4000 rpm
3.0L DOHC 24-valve6-cylinder with VVT
Horsepower, SAE net 212 @ 6000 rpm
Torque, SAE net (lb./ft.) 197 @ 5000 rpm
I would love to get either a Mazda speed MX5 or RX8
MX5 for a DD nice ride but a little cramped. The RX8 is the same story although it has a ton more room than an MX5. Go for the 6 I would love to have one as a DD. Actually I'd love to have a DD period.
