anyone have any pics or advice for this swap? I'm tired of not having good brakes...:beatyoass:
Can't you just unplug the sensors and that turns it off. Probaly wrong but a freind said that to me:dunno:
I did a writeup on it here not too long ago. If you can't find it here, just go to turboford.org and look in the FAQ's, it's still on the first page there.
It's actually an easy swap, just time consuming since you have to crawl up under the dashboard.
Its a pretty easy swap been there

I found the post. but no pics :beatyoass:
I just attached some pics to the thread on TF, if you wanna go check it out.
I have been searching turbo ford and I cant find the post... how about a link :D
You need new friends...or need to stop believing what you hear.
Thats why I have you guys. I learn all the stuff I need toTHE RIGHT WAY.
Yeah, I dont belive anything I hear, and only half of what I see.
why do all of my posts end up in bashing 84fila? why cant people be nice to him? he's here for the same reason we are...... come on guys, well I guess if your gonna hate on him your gonna have to hate me too
Most posts do Graham. It's a chance I take when I open my mouth to what I was told and open my mind to learn. At least now I know most of my freinds around my town ( except Ifixyawata) are full of shiznit.
How was i bashing him? I didnt throw a direct insult, i made comments on his friends, and if you cant handle that, Id hate to see how youd feel about an actual insult.
I guess thats why i dont post here nearly as much as i used to, everyone is too quick to be offended and get their feelings hurt.
Look, before we get this tread too far off topic and locked down, It's ok. I wasn't an insult and no one was hurt by it. Now can we get back to the topic do we can all learn something
I just felt like I needed to stick up for him when nobody else here does. Sorry Shawn... anyways back to the subject wich M/C will I need to use to make this work? does anyone have a part number? thanks
"been searching," my ass...I told you it was on the first page of the FAQ's section.
Here.

Isn't ABS "better" the non-ABS cars. I personaly like my car without ABS and the Vic doesn't have it either.
I guess I missed that part :sorry:
I ordered a M/C for an 85 SVO with power brakes.I hope this is the one I need.
Let me explain a little something here, itll help clear things up.
In the Turbo Coupes, they have a hydraulic pump for the brakes. Where as the non-abs have the large cylindrical brake booster, the Turbo Coupes have a hydraulic pump, that builds up the pressure for the power assist in the brakes. The system works great, untill it gets 20 years under its belt, and the accumulator, the pressure switch, the relays, ect start to fail. This mastercylinder setup is a totally separate system from the ABS, but its needed for the ABS to work.
The ABS system consists of 4 sensors, a computer, a few inputs from the engine computer, and a few relays. The computer uses the sensors to pick up the wheels locking up, when the sensors see no motion, and the vehicle speed sensor tells the ABS computer its still moving, it starts to pulse the brakes. The pulsing of the brakes is done by a relay, that clicks on and off at a very rapid pace, that relay sends signal to the hydraulic pump, telling it to pulse the brakes.
So essentially, you can eliminate the ABS part of the brakes, and still have brakes. My ABS is disabled. What Graham is talking about is ditching the hydraulic pump setup for a convential brake booster.
Hopefully i helped clear some things up for you.
Actually, yeah you did. Thanks
M/C pn 10-1897 O'Reilly's I'll list all of the other part numbers as I aquire them and I'll start disassembly when I aquire all of the parts.
I used one for a 85 mustang 2.3 with manual brakes it even came with the correct rod:shakeass:
You did get a booster, right?
I'm using one for an '86 SVO, it should be fine, just make sure it's a 1 1/4" bore MC. I noticed that advance auto parts lists at least 3 different master cylinders as being for the SVO but some aren't even the right size.
the booster I have is from an 85 bird. and the M/C I have here is the 1 1/4 " bore
correct rod?? the rod that I have is adjustable and part of the booster from the 85 bird.

Red lx, were you able to buy the brake lines already flared and cut to length?
You would only have a booster in a power brake application. The title stated manual brakes. Am i missing something?
Well I guess he meant vac-assisted brakes.
As for the brake lines, I bought short lengths of line from the parts store (8-12" or so) and bent them to fit. You'll need a brake line bender, but some of those bends are hard to make without crimping the line and you can only make so tight of a bend. So, some of them are a little hard to make.
Also on the tee that you use, you'll need a line with a metric bubble flare on one end and a standard flare on the other end to go from the tee to the prop valve. I lucked out when I was looking for a booster, I got a complete booster, MC and prop valve from an '89 5.0, and on the factory 5.0 MC there is a line that runs from the MC to the prop valve that is exactly what you need for that spot. I don't know if they sell that line as a replacement at auto parts stores or not, but if you could find that line it would greatly simplify things.
well I have everything except for the union that goes under the tee and the closest advanced autoparts is in Wichita about 45 miles from here. I guess I'll have to go up there and see if I can find one. I'll keep you posted.
Finally I think I have all of the parts I need. the union fits nicely now comes the fun part of plumbing everything in...
the brakes are done...... and the pedal feels awesome, but I havent had a chance to test them on the road since I still have to swap turbos. Hopefully this weekend I'll get to take it for a test drive. Thanks redlx for all of the help. I really owe you one...
No problem. When I was looking to do the swap, I couldn't get any answers from anyone, so I'm glad I could help. What good is knowledge if it is not shared?
