Title: Cheap insurance on an 88 XR-7 ?
Post by: JZ1276 on December 11, 2006, 05:20:39 PM
After asking around, I've decided i'm paying way too much (1600 a year, I am 30) on my 88 XR-7 and decided to switch companies. Just got a quote frm Geico for 100 a month. Before I switch over, anyone with an 88 Cougar paying less than that?

I have a 88 sport and a 02 taurus and pay about 1600 a year for both.  I have full coverage w/ 1000$ deductable on colision and comp (only if I am at fault) and 100/300K property damage liability and 250/500K bodily injury liability.  I do have a low milage <7500 miles on the bird anually.

Alot depends on where you live, age, and driving record.  You really got to compare with other drivers and companies in your area.  Here (Massachusetts) rates are set by the state and all companies charge about the same but you can shop around for some discounts like multi car.

I pay the same for the bird and taurus, because the bird is a higher risk car due to many teens etc having them.

I have 01 Dodge Caravan and 88 Cougar LS. The van has liability and collision. The Cougar only has liability. I use Geico and only pay $55.00 a month for both vehicles. Do you have some bad stuff on your driving history? Like a DWI or careless and reckless driving, cause it sure sounds like something is driving your rate up.

When I was 16 I paid $200+ for insurance a month. Now for the same car and my dad's van its less then $150 each for 6 months. That is with minimum liablility.

You should ask the geico guy why you have to pay more in a year for insurance then you car costed(wether its true or not).

I have full coverage on my '83 Bird, '01 Sebring Vert. and my '99 F150 4x4 with $250 Deduct. Collision, $0 deduct comprehensive, $500/750k bodily injury and $750/1mill property (I would have to double check those two). The 'Bird cost $199 for 6 months, The Sebring is around$500 for 6 months, and the truck is about $600 for 6 months. I use State Farm, and I have had the same agent for the last 6 years. I also have my '91 Grand Prix (beater) insured through them for liability, and it is like $25 to $30 a month. However I also have my house insured through them, and a personal propety insurance for my wifes wedding ring. So I give them a lot of money every year. Plus my brother and mom use the same insurance agent.

It also depends where you live. I live in NY metro area so I get fist f$*!ed but its getting better now that I’m 30 and married I’m paying less. Don’t forget these insurance companies do credit checks and don’t ask me why cause its wrong but they get away w/it but not so good credit = paying more.

I am 23 and have a pretty clean record i had a suspension for driving without my insurance card.  I had insurance just not my card.  I paid the fines got my liscense reinstated and it was suspended again almost immeadiatly because get this, I neglected to show proof of insurance to the judge.  I was never asked for my POI when i was in court and its not hard to figure out.  So i took the receipt from me getting the car out of impound for which you have to show POI and they still screwed me.  The worst part was i had to have a drivers liscense for the job i had,  I took some time off because I had to drive to the state capitol to take care of this, again grabbing the KY, my boss found out why, fired me and lets just say my ass was pretty sore for a long time after that raping.  Sorry bout the rant but that was 3 or 4 years ago now and when i get those little driving record request copies from the state there is nothing on it.  There will be next time, I got two tickets in December, one of which i'm contesting, but i still think i'm paying too much.  Plus i'm gonna try to get a pickup soon and i will want full coverage on that.
