Title: Junkyard dog…uhhh bird this time!!
Post by: rodsterh on December 07, 2006, 07:25:51 PM
I took advantage of the nice weather again and headed to another junkyard. I don’t think I saw one Cougar this time ..but I did find this 83TC someone mentioned was in the yard. It’s in sad shape and not much left. Missing engine/trans. Most of what is left is junk because whoever parted it first just yanked and ripped and broke just about everything they touched. Even though it’s a junkyard I still try to take most things off with TOOLS!

And here’s what I managed to salvage…plus a decent shifter boot and battery box.

And a special shout out to the d!cks at Harry’s U-pull in Pennsburg for charging me $9 for a s piece of carpet I used to carry my parts.

:flip: :flip: :flip: :flip:

They said whatever you bring to the window you have to pay for! I left in a hurry this morning and forgot my bag and even told them that. Doesn’t matter to them… I hope the $9 makes them rich because as soon as I get a few more things from the ’83, I won’t be going back there.

Besides at the prices they charge now, it’s cheaper to buy what you can find off of e-bay.

:flip:

There... I feel better now! :)

What shape are those seast in? They look to be gray and I might be interested (even though I'm in Chicago and you're in PA:grinno: ).

Seat backs were nice but the rest of the seats are filthy and greasy, thanks to the scavengers before me. My first impression was 'What ashamed...' if that gives you an idea and I love to save anything I can.

The yard will be asking a premium too according to their price list:

Seat- Bucket (No motors) $16.90
Seat Motor                      $7.80 plus $1.00 core
Seat Track                      $4.50

So you're looking at about $65 for a pair assuming they don't charge for the 'seat fabric' or 'seat hardware' or 'grease' !

Worth it???

That's really not a bad price if the seats can be cleaned and used.

So just unbolt the seat tracks and take the front and back seats ;). Shipping would be a decent ammount to get them to Ohio, let alone to me in Chicago.

Th eyard I go to has the same proble with people screwing up good parts. I remember I saw a 88 Cougar with perfect headlights that someone smashed out with a hammer:pbb:

Yea..and I'm not ever sure all the headlights are good. I'd just get new ones....much better light too. Been too cold here for a JY run so I'll have to wait until it warms up again to go back. I think the headlight bezels were $18 each so you might do better watch on ebay..and there are aftermarkets available too. If the parts were worth the price I would have got them the first trip...

It doesn't look too bad in the picture...but believe me..it is.

Yea maybe I'll just ask them how much for the fabric! Shipping is the big killer..if you ever took these seats out (esp power) you know how heavy they are. The first time I took one out I thought I forgot a bolt somewhere! :grinno:

I'm not sure why people screw up good parts??  Is it a hobby or just pi$$ed at the prices and figure they'll scr#w the yard owners?  I could never figure it out. I was hoping the hood and doors would be OK but look at the corners of the hood...nice huh? Why unbolt 4 bolts and take off the hood to pull the motor?  Just peel it back....:(

I was in a yard today talking to one of the yard men, while we were talking he pulls a large fountain cup full of soda from his truck, takes the lid off drinks half and throws the rest of the drink into a decent late model car drenching the interior. He opened the car door to do this. I was sorta suprised, he told me he had worked there two years and couldn't imagine working anywhere else!! :wtf: Go figure.
