Title: Trunk leaks?
Post by: Dansbirds on December 06, 2006, 06:42:57 AM
Dont know if this is in the right area but here it goes. I have an 87 Bird and my trunk leaks from best I can tell near the lt corner closest to the back glass. I checked the seal and it looks ok with no rips tears etc. I can push(with the lid shut) on the trunk and get a little play in the lid. Any thoughts will be appreciated

I have leaks in the same exact area on both of my Cougars.
Here's what I think it is:
-On the '86, I think it's the body seam right in that corner. The factory sealant has dried up and it's revealing the metal seam underneath
-On the '96, I think the rear glass is leaking! I poured a cup of water on the roof and watched it dribble down the glass and behind the trim. A few seconds later it was in the trunk.

Might want to remove the window moulding in that corner.
You may have a rust hole starting, these cars are bad for that in those area's and you may not see it with the moulding on.

What type of clips hold these mldgs on? I had considered putting a new seal for the trunk on also. Even though this one appears fine I can push on the trunk lid when its shut and get some movement.
