Which is the reason I haven't posted here in a while. Unfortunately I couldn't find any good condition T-Birds for sale, Cougars were even more scant. Found a couple of really nice 4-eyes, but the owners weren't willing to part even after offering rediculous cash. So I picked up a bird of a different type.
We moved to a new house, and my dad wanted me to sell the bird, because the rear main was shot, and it leaked about a quart every 2-days. With 250k miles on it, I figured it woldn't be worth fixing, and the 331 was a ways away. I couldn't get a personal loan to finance the new motor, so I got an auto loan. I don't regret selling the bird, just regret who I sold it too. He's already trashed it, and owes me some money on it still. I got jerked over on that deal, but Live and Let Learn right?
So far I'm happy with it. I picked it up for a pretty good deal. I went with this car because I've always loved the way they looked, and it's pretty much right at teh power level that the Bird would have been when I was done with the 331. All though I've already had to replace the driveshaft, It's been pretty reliable.
It's got Hooker long tube headers a Borla cat-back, and an intake. And a few other non power adding things. First time out at the track, in 107* weather it ran a 13.8 @ 102, which was slow, it has low 13's+ in it.
eh... traitor
bahs-tard ah nice ride though.
so what did you sell your THUNDERbird for.
500, I had a conscience, that's where I went wrong. Two other people had offered me a grand, which was way more than it was worth, but my neighbor came up to me, and offered 500. He's 17 with a kid, and no job, because he wrecked his last car. I was like OK, and he said can I give you half now, and the other half when I get a job. Yet again, I felt bad for him, so I was like sure, why not. I knew it was a mistake, but went with it anyway. So 4 months later, and no job, no other 250, and he beat the outta it, and is trying to sell it.
And yeah, I know I'm a traitor. There's only 2 Non-Ford products as far as the big three go that I ever said I'd own, and that's a Corvette, or an F-body. Dodge just doesn't do it for me.
-quick Robin, to the door hinge bushing warehouse.....:toilet:
Actually, I've always liked the f-bodies. I've driven a 6-speed Z-28 and a Firebird Formula, both 1995 models. They are insanely fast.
It looks like you have a nice one!
When I sold my first car, some redneck bought it because it "had a working heater."
I saw it one month later with four flat tires and a broken window - swear to God. That's all the time it took that hill-jack to ruin my car. I was so freaking angry about that... Oh well.
Don't think about it - trust me.
FOX FOR AND F.
no thanks. have fun with the other trillion and a half people that think they are original with there F bodys and mustangs
lmao..
You gotta be a dumbass to prefer a 25yr old grandma's car over a real performance car. :D But I'm sure that's not what this board wants to hear. :D
Nice ride dude.. 13.8@102 is really slow for an LS1 car with good exhaust. You should be trapping 108 easy and running 12.7-12.8 on street tires. Go have fun... ya traitor. :D
Evidently about 1600 people at least by the number of member on this board. It that fact that the Tbirds and Cougar are unique. The F body everyone has them. It is in fact a nice ride but I would still take a Bird or Cougar.
Think of it this way. Go fast or go fast comfortably.
This is certainly a subject that i can not criticize you on considering i had to put my 87 on the back burner, but i would have at least tried to keep it Ford/Mercury. I love my 99 as much as i do my 87, i cant say that i would pick a Fireturd out of the crowd but have fun with it.
I like being the underdog personally, so I'd definitely take the Tbird and fix it up. But, its your money and not mine. My dad's 85 T/A 305 T-top car is a really cool car to drive though (the handling is amazing). Enjoy it!
Looks like a nice ride.
sweet, keep it between the lines! nice ride, dont be a stranger....
i too finally traded out my fox thunderjunk for not firegarbage but a junkstain. im happy with it and its superior in every way. granted i was on my way to making my tbird what i wanted i finally had to look at what i had invested vs. how much further i had to go to make it what i wanted. talk to some of these guys that have those tbirds or cougars that you actually might want over a more modern performance or sport lux car like Hawk or Eric. those guys love and are dedicated to there cars with much less concern about the monitary commitment than your average guy. unfortunately not all of us can do that. i tried and realised id be 30 large easilly into this thing and that sort of scared me. i deffinetly miss the sh@ out of my tbird but driving the stang makes me forget about it every time i turn the key. sure there are a redonculous amount of stangs out there but you know what, ive got a decent one isnt like every other stang out there although at a glance the differances are suttle. no matter what, im happy and whats important is what makes you happy. its about cool cars, and these are all cool cars. its not about what car is better than what other car, at least not for me anyway. they all end up s metal in the end anyway.
Car looks good, clean.
Personally The front end makes me think of a 450lb woman in a wet t-shirt contest but atleast it should be reliable and easy to resell once you find another fox bird/cat.
There will be another :p
Scott
Well......errr....ummm.....
Nevermind...
I guess if you like it...
It's tough to sell the T-bird but you have to do what you have to do. Nice car though.
I know it'll cost a bunch of money to make my T-bird run and handle as good as a more modern car but I'm not worried about that. I'm never getting rid of this car no matter how much time and or money it costs me. I know it's an old car and it'll never be the same as a brand new performance car. Do you think guys who own 49 Fords worry about making their cars handle just as good as a new car?;)
nice Firebird, and as others have said, dont be a stranger... just remember Birds of a Feather flock together
Nice Firebird. I drove a 98 Formula, and fell in love. The LS1 sounds great with exhaust.
Two of my first cars were Firebirds, and I will own another some day, so I can't be hatin' :D Nice ride
It's ok, I got a 77 Formula and I don't feel guilty owning it. I really don't feel guilty when driving it on the streets and get all those looks either...
no i dont, and i totaly get it. i may end up building up a tbird someday. who knows. id ah stuck with my project but i realy need to be saving to build a house for my family a little better than i have been. i wish i could do it all, i just cant. how likely it will be that ill run into something worth building up when im ready i dont know. all i know is it will always be in the back in my mind and when ever i see a decent turbo coupe, sport, or xr7 ill get that tingilly buzz feeling inside that very few cars can give me....
I love LS1 engines, they are an amazing platform to build off of. Infact I love WS6 T/A's as well. They where amazing cars.
true dat yo'
i dont know why so many ford guys dont respect/appreciate them. they are decent stock and its not hard to make them animals....
I like the lines of the earlier examples of the last generation Trans Ams the best. Unfortunately they had the LT-1 that precluded the LS-1 and are well known smoke factories. I wounder if an LS-7 would drop into a 94 T/A without too much hassle......
hey man nice ride. 6-speed or auto? 346ci out of the factory aluminum heads. 13's stock with a few bolt ons 12's cant beat it and they allways handle beter ... oh and the CHEAP parts factor
Hello again, sorry to bring back a dead thread, just been busy at work and haven't checked it in a while. Thanks for all the kind words from some of you, and to the others, I can't blame you for knocking my choice seeing as how this is a Ford board and all.
As far as the 13.8 goes, it was my first time ever at the track in less than satisfactory racing conditions, like the 107 degree temp. It's an auto car, which I now know how to properly stall and launch, plus it's cooler outside, so I need to fix a header gasket, change the plugs and take her back. I hope to hit low 13's, maybe high 12's.
Okay, I don't care what anyone says, that Firebird is gorgeous.
Congrats on the purchase and enjoy it!
Isn't it funny though how you get turned down for a personal loan but you practically get a car loan thrown at you? I had the same thing lol.
Nice car, those are fun to drive. A friend of mine had a WS6 6-speed 5 years ago. that thing was fun. Is it a WS6 or does it just have the hood? Those LS1's are great. Was looking for one for a long time to put in a 69 camaro.
Nope it's the real deal WS.6. If I had gotten a regular T/A there's a guy who does hoods here in AZ and I would have picked up one of his hoods.
As long as you're happy with what you ended up with, it really doesn't matter what the rest of us think about it. More power to ya, at any rate.
My first T-bird is probably spending its last week in the front yard. I still like the car and wish I could've done more for it, but like shame302 and his Rustang, (I can't resist.. heh.. I still can't stand Mustangs. It's mostly in the name, since I happen to love Fox Capris) I feel like my Mark VII is superior to my T-bird and more pleasurable to drive. Driving that T-bird was "hey, this is nice".. but the LSC commonly elicits a " I love this car".. usually before flooring it. (OK, about 3/4 throttle) :p
Someday I'll pick up one that has more options and isn't saddled with that boat anchor of a V6.. or barring that, I'll finally do that 300 I6 project on one. (or follow in Chuck's footsteps and nag an Aussie I've known for a few years to send me a care package.. heh) My adjusted goal is now to keep the LSC long term, (not hard with only 99k on the clock) find the aforementioned T-bird after the yard's a bit clearer, and also find a 4-door Fairmont or Zephyr to go the 2.3T route with, for an ultralight Fox-based plaything.
Back to the F-body thing: Personally, the only F-body I'd own would be a throwback to my childhood days (and WAY up the nerd scale) and be a replica of KARR.. the "evil KITT" from Knight Rider:
http://www.knightreplicas.com/kitt_and_karr.html
But like I said, all that really matters here is that you're happy with yours.
I think it's an awesome looking car with killer performance right out of the box. There's only 2 reasons I couldn't own one... I'm 6'4" so I dont fit in those cars well and they're a nightmare to work on... as you'll find out when you replace that header gasket.
Hell, if some disaster struck and I lost both my birds I'd probably look at buying a used BMW M3 or possibly a GTO. Ford hasn't made a performance sedan with any kind of potential that really caters to my needs since the Fox Turbocoupes and SHO Taurus... (I hate the MN12's and the Marauder is too big)
I dont blame you for buying the TA. It's definitely a cool car!
