Title: New engine, transmission coming soon!
Post by: Haystack on December 03, 2006, 03:55:46 AM
So I picked up my 86 mustang short block yesterday. It dosen't have the spiffier pistons or anything, but I basically finally have an engine.

What are the spec's for an 86 cam? They told me its setup for roller lifters, but its not a big deal to me if its not.

I am picking up a t-5 and the rest of the parts I need for a full H.O. conversion and tranny swap. I am excited. Before too long (a month or two) I'll finally have a 5 speed and 225 hp. Wish me luck!

I may be wrong but I think the 86's made 200hp, were roller blocks and had flat top pistons which made it hard to add ANY kind of camshaft other than stock 86 cams. Like I said, check it out to make sure.

I should have clearified alittle bit. Its a 86 block, but it is re-manufactored. It does not have flat top pistons, and the biggest restriction on the 86 mustangs, was that they had our very same stock upper intake and throttle body. I think they still had the 19# injectors, diffrent cam, and the headers and the py e6 heads.

Other then that I belive that they are the same.

I am only going to build it up to a 87-88 SD mustang standard, and since its a short block, its only the block crank pistons and cam? I haven't had a chance to pull it out of the crate all of the way yet. It does have valve reliefs and I belive that they are forged. But it will prolly have to wait till the weekend before I will know for sure.
