I putting dual exhuast on my 88 cougar xr-7 5.0 and want to know if anyone can tell which overall length lers I should buy? In terms of fitment what is better: 19" overall (13" case) or 23" overall (17" case) These may not be the exact dimensions of the lers I'm going to buy but just for an idea--long or short. I'm using stock replacement mustang h-pipe and extension pipes. Since I'm not buying a cat back system I need to know if it will be a problem what size lers I get. Does anyone know what the stock size length Mustang lers are? Thanks. Mike
ok its an 88 so there is no worry bout the fuel filter cuz the 88s are already set up for dual exhaust. Now id say mesure the space ya got. at the intermediate pipe to bout an 2 or 3 inches from the rear axel. also remember to keep the pipe away from any moving parts so it doesn't put a bind on the pipe. But id go with a smaller case.
Thanks for the reply. I will probably get the shorter lers. I can always add a few inches of pipe if necessary but I don't want to cut any pipes short, especially near bends. Another reason I asked this question was because I was thinking about using my existing 2 inch lers with adapters. My existing lers are long (about 23 inches) and the adapters would add some length to the system. So that probably wouldn't work. I'm going to get new lers though but I'm still going to use my stock tailpipes with adapters, for now anyway. Most of my exhuast is pretty new but I gotta have true duals. Thanks again. This board has been helpful. -Mike
Is there any sound difference too longer lers?
What kinda lers in question?
FYI 40-series flowmasters are a 13" case and I believe that's right around the stock size that came on Fox cars with dual exhaust. 3-chamber (50 series) are 17" case and from what I read they're kind of a tight fit on a Fox chassis car.
