Title: Few questions
Post by: gdniel on December 01, 2006, 11:40:25 PM
Recently  joined, and was wondering what parts are worth picking up when going to the junkyard?

My pick and pull has atleast 10 83-88 t-bird/cougars always , some weeks there are even more than that. Almost no one ever pulls parts from them, anything I should be looking for besides t/c rear brakes/ floor shifters etc..?

The whole TC rear axle, or drum 8.8, TC front brakes, TC swaybars, TC header panels and bumper covers, good side moldings I guess(got my ass chewed once for throwing some away) I don't know. Are you looking for parts to pick up and post for sale or just looking for upgrades?

If there are any '83 the turn signals (bumper mounted) are clear. It is for the '83 year only. I would gladly take those off your hands. :D Plus the '83 has the full size console with the lights in it in the back to light up the backseat floor well. This is an '83 thing also. Its a nice upgrade too.

I know about turbo coupes, but didn't know what else I could use for my 86 bird. I wasn't really looking to buy and resell unless someone really needs something, I was looking for myself. I pass these by and only take wheels etc. from them.

I raid 'em for interior screws and all the small hardware that's easy to get to. Just bring a ziplock bag and a phillips head and go to town. You'd be suprised how often that bag of screws will come in handy down the line. Get all the little oddball hardware you can get your hands on.

In fact, since I bought the 86, I'm almost out of my last batch and have to go raid another car for more.

Also if you own an 87/88 grab the tail light assy if you see any intact. They tend to separate sometimes and they're hard to get anymore.
