Hello,
Just for fun I just found a few pics of between dec 2005 and jan 2006 of removing and putting in My rebluilted (I rebuilted) 3.8/232 on My '85 Bird, and engine bay compartment cleaning...
No pics of the engine when rebuilding, too hassle to clean up hands to take a pics, and You know what I say...
Pic #1 engine before out right side.
Pic #2 engine before removing left side.
Pic #3 Engine on the chain block before put on the floor.
The engine was full or oil and grease, I sed the transmission witk a ser YES!, on the top of the bellhousing around 1inch of on, what a job!...
Next msg, 3 more pics :grinno:
py job cont'd...
Pic #1 engine on the floor.
Pic #2 Engine compartment before cleaning and prepare to paint.
Pic #3 Engine compartment cleaned and painted.
It was a dirty job to clean the engine before dissasemble, and the enfine compartment was full or oil and grease, needed a lot of GUNK cleaner cans ans a lot of pressure steamed, thrust Me!!!...
Last pics of this job, a little less dirty job...
The engine was a complete or most complete new parts, from the valves and springs/rockers, to the cranks inserts, the only part I was not belived to change is the oil pan, when cleaned it was same a window screen, Purchased one new at 200 CDN bucks, I have no choice...
Pic #1 engine on the chain block half an hour before pull in there.
Pic #2 engine in the car FINALLY, not fully assembled.
Pic #3 Engine most completed with all he need to run good...
When I decided to first start the engine, I cranked the oil pump with an old hexagon shaft and a 3/8 drill to prime the system, and settled the timing as I guessed good, putted gas on the carb, and started at the solenoid with the key on in the car, rotted a bit but not run, changed the timing a few degrees, and gas on the carb again, and cranked again, and 2-3 turns after the engine runned, YEAH!...
After all I finished to install all the ghizmos around, and rad with water, cranked again, runned very good, oil pressure cold around 40psi, when hot 30-35 at idle, and sitted in the garage with a good beer and hear the engine running straight pipe fot half an hour Eheheh!!!:grinno:
I runned the car for about 500miles and after putted a full synthetic 10w30 in there, and I runned 15k this summer, and runs smooth and great...
This winter a 5 lugs conversion, dual exhaust, and little body work, new dark blue metallic, and go out to pick a girls with the car :grinno: :grinno: :grinno:
Forgot to mention, I take more picture for the future jobs, and post it here!!! :D
Nice job but you made 3 separate threads, I went ahead and merged them together for you so people don't have to reply into 3 different threads.
Hello,
Thank You for the help, but I see only 3 attachment possible per post, I suppose Just upload 3 attachment, and re-upload 3 others just after the three first was u/l ?...
Nice job; I know its tuff to clean the engine bay, but definitely the right time to paint it after the pull. You will find out if you did a good enough cleaning job a year from now if the paint in the bay is still holding.
Is the tranny new also, or just cleaned up?
Hello!,
The paint still here, I'm sure of that, I sanded all the parts I capable to sand, the rest I used a sandblast to sand the area I am unable to hand sanding, after all, I cleaned with a lacquer thinner and I putted 3 good layer of Tremclad paint with a gun, I guess the paint still here and don't peel off...
The tranny is the original one, just cleaned the on it, When I made the enjine Job the car was around mid 40K miles, it'a a 3spd not an AOD, and shift like a new.
The engine was not original, cauz when I purchased this Bird for My Mother, the car sitted for a year in a driveway on the side of a home, the Prop of this bird leave the keys to all needed the car, and probably not gently drived, the engine was a big base compression at this time...
Year after I putted on the engine You see on the pics from a cougar CFI '86, for 300$, but the engine has a base compression a bit, and have an oil consumption...
When I rebuilted last year, I found a couple of rings broken one some pistons, and between the cyl #1 and 2 the gasket was cracked...
Now, no prob's with the engine cauz it's completely rebuilted, and run like new...
Regards,
