Title: Dash Wiring
Post by: 5.8fastcat on November 26, 2006, 10:26:38 PM
Does anyone know if the dash wiring harness is the same between a XR7 car and a LS car?

I have a nice dash out of a LS  that I want to install in my XR7 but I would like to know before I get it half way in and find out they are diffrent.

 Thanks ahead of time.

Greg, I'm guessing that I know more about the dash harnesses in these cars than anyone else.  That is a guess, but I garuntee I can answer anyones question.....

Now, your question.... No they are not the same.  I can further explain the differences,, but I bet that would be easier over a phone conversation.  And maybe chat a bit about a flywheel ;)

If the LS harness has the same features (ATC, etc.) as the XR7, then why would it be different?

now thats percision speaking especially when taking a look at v6 setups from both years.  You would not have the same problem in the v8's

Actualy yes. v6 and v8 harnesses are interchangeable only for there year.

V6 cars shared the same dash harness as the v8 for 87 and v6 and v8 cars for 88 shared the same hanrness.

Whats different?  There are only two things that distingush the dash harness options.  ATC and Cluster option.  All other options are modular additions.  Premium sound, autolamp, cornering lamps, power antenna are modular pieces, all dash harnesses have an interface for these options.

Harness
1. 87 v6 or v8, non atc, base digital,
2. 87 v6 or v8, ATC, base digital
3. 87 v6 or v8, non ATC, full digital
4. 87 v6 or v8, ATC, full digital
87 turbo coupe harness's I wont mention.
There were 4 different dash harnesses for v6 and v8 cars for the year of 87.

1. 88 v6 or v8, non atc, base digital
2. 88 v6 or v8, ATC, base digital
3. 88 v6 or v8, non atc, full digital
4. 88 v6 or v8, atc, full digital
5. 88 v8, non atc, buttstuffog
6. 88 v8, ATC, buttstuffog
Again I wont mention the 88 TC's
There are 6 dash harnesses for 88 all of wich will work for v6 or v8 even though the buttstuffog was only available for the v8.

Whats different between 87 and 88?  The connectors above the brake booster that interface the dash harness to the engine harness.  On 87 one is an 8 pin (grey) and one is a 4 pin (black).  88's had two 8 pins, one grey one black.  87's also have a third single connector that powers the EEC that the 88's have routed through one of the 8 pin connector.

Now do you guys believe me?

Never said we didn't believe you, Claude...just wanted to know what the differences were, bro.

What did you say?
Ford, changing a harness for one year only?
Naaahhhhhhhhhhh.....they'd never do something like that.... ;)

THanks guys. I've been busy working on the cougar. I guess I'll swap the harness from the old dash out of the car to the dash I'm putting in.

1 was  basic  digatal  w/o ATC

The orginal dash was  full digatal with ATC

Claude  did you check on the new flywheel?
