After putting the rear end back in my T-Bird this weekend, we realized we had left out the rubber cylinder that came out of the old springs. Not the spring isolator pads, but a rubber tube essentially about five inches or so long.
What is this thing? I can't find a single reference to it in my books, and I can't find anyone selling something like it. Is it important? Do I have to take the thing back apart and put it in?
I can post pictures if my description wasn't clear.
Thanks!

You dont need it, I believe its only used to keep from getting stuck in the coils.

It's there for NVH. It's to help keep the coils "quiet". Not essential for performance.
You could just fold it flat & cram it between the coils. With the rear jacked up, the extended springs should give you enough wiggle room to get it back in (if you want).

I left mine with the stock springs when I changed springs. no difference I thought
thanks for using my pic!!:birdsmily:
i left mine in, because if i didnt, i know i wouldnt want to throw them away and then id have 4 rubber sleeves in my way......:dunce:
Hi!,
It's just there to retain the coil to prevent go out of under the car :grinno:
Seriously, when I changed My coils last winter, I putted in there again, only because it was there original, but I guessed is to prevent a "ball" of mud in the coil or sometning like that...
It's probably not very very important, cauz I never see that on any other of My coiled Ford before...
