all appologies to those who see ebay links as unfair :)
I checked that out. First off its KM/hr. second the numbers don't line up in the mileage. Third it is miss partrs. Also where is the box? sounds like a scam to me.
Huh?
It's a Canadian speedo....thus the Km/hr. 180kph= approx 112mph.
A $10 scam? A little paranoid are we? :p
In this case, it seems like...
NOS = Neat Old Stuff
Missing box = Thrown out when it was installed at the factory in 83.
Missing needle = It broke when he pulled it apart to reset the mileage (kilometrage?) to zero.
Seems like a lot of work to make ten dollars. :rolleyes:
I've seen LOTS of NOS parts that are wire-tagged like that. Is the speedo even unusual? I just can't see pulling a speedo, taking the time to run it back to zero, and listing it all on eBay for ten dollars. I bet it's legit.
Either that, or he's out to scam the '83-84 Thunderbird community one ten-dollar bill at a time!! :eek:
Yes I am paranoid when it comes to buying new old stock. If it realy is NEw old stock why all the little things wrong. To me that is Old new part that sat around until they can find someone to buy it. Also if it really is NOS why would it be so cheap? Still think someone is scamiong someone. I could be wrong but that is my feeling about it. To me NOS is new in a box not missing anything. That part doesn't meet what I feel comfortable with.
I agree...this was probably pirated for the needle in the past, and just sat on a shelf somewhere. It is not 100% complete NOS. But what's left is still NOS because it has never been used, as far as we know.
I just bought a NOS taillight lens with a cracked corner that was glued back on at some point. Is it NOS? Yes, never been put on a car before. It it perfect? Not by a longshot. It's in
nice shape but not
perfect shape. There's a big difference. Same thing is happening here. I mean, it's easy enough to find a needle and install it. But that's not the point. NOS is the assumption that everything is new, complete, and in a package or box. This part is not. Therefore it's just 'new' and 'unused'. But it's not really NOS in what you'd typically expect. If I were Canadian and wanted a new speedo, this would fit the bill. Otherwise it's a $10 dust collector.
Buyer beware.
I was/am not paranoid! I will be sure to let you all know if it was a scam or not :X :D
Sorta bringing this out from the dead, but I received it this morning. Looks and seems fine! However, I will not be able to test it until next spring :D WOOT!!
