Title: Bird emblem on the Sterring Wheel?
Post by: 84 Fila on November 16, 2006, 11:13:38 PM
As most of you know, I'm still finding little things wrong with my car. After owning it almost 6 mounths I noticed today that my sterring wheel should have an emblem on it.

My question is where can I find another bird emblem to go here. Is this somthing common?

I think 85 and 86 only on those.  check the yards and ebay...  I'll keep my eyes open.  and I'll check my friends junk 85 when I go there again.

The 83-84 cars have a different *Bird* design than the 85-88s. You'll have to get one from an 83-84 car.

Do any of you guys have one laying around? That I know of there isn't one in any "close" boneyards. Or would it just be faster and eaiser to swap to a T/c sterring wheel like I want to anyways. All I have to do it go get it and put it on

Mike,  I have my old steering wheel out in my garage, but I can't say for sure if it has an emblem in it or not.  I have the same wheel as you do, but these guys say they emblem is different, so who knows.

The wheel is red isn't it? Or the grey one on the wall?

No, it's black and it's somewhere else.

My '85 has an "84" wheel, if that means anything.  So, unless they designed an A-frame wheel for the t-birds with two different birds in 'em, then the one I MAY have will fit.

Just stick a TC steering wheel on it. It's a great upgrade and very easy to do.

the "emblem" is supposed to be a metal bird with a detailed raised plastic sticker.  my horn button has everything.

If fila has a ture 84 the T-bird design was different. The 85-up had a firechicken emblem. Looked like a flameing T-bird. The early 83-84 models have a differnt emblem. The T-bird design without any Trans-AM type flames. Also the 83-84 steering wheel emeblem is a little aluminum piece with a plastic alf buble  shape glued to the metal. It also has a black outline just inside the outer edge. So make shure the you get the one you want. BOth center pieces will fit the A frame wheel.

True 84? As far as I know the car is all 1984. Mods might have been done to the car like changing the steering wheel ( don't think they would) but I think it's an 84. Sale pending on Grahams steering wheel anyways. I'm starting to feel less and less bad about modifying the Fila. It is after all just another T-bird with a funky option package.
