Today I started on my winter projects... finally! I pulled the Mac 2 1/2" h-pipe from the 87 and the stock pipe from the 86 and swapped 'em. Only took 5 hours this time! I HATE removing and installing exhaust stuff. Anyway, I figured I better do it now while the heads are off the 87 (it was alot easier with the headers out of the way). The only snag came when installing the Mac pipe on the 86. I was gonna cut the hangers off but i couldn't find my hack saw so I decided to go for it with the hangers. I could only muscle it within about 4 inches of the headers. But then I thought I'd try my ratcheting tie-down strap. I looped it around the "h" section of the pipe and the K member brace and pulled it right in (bottom pic). I wish I would of thought of that years ago! I figured I'd share...
Tommorrow, project #2... install the E7's on the 87 and hopefully have it running by thursday night. That will leave me the weekend to put my Cobra intake on the 86. Gonna be a busy week!
Good thinking. We usually learn the hard way. That's why we love our cars so much.
Actually thats mainly why I despise cars, I guess it varies from person to person :p
C'mon Scott,if you despised them THAT much, you wouldn't be here. It's a love/hate relationship. We cuss them,we get mad,we want to pull our hair out sometimes,YET,we invest time and money continuing to fix them and make them more than they are now.We love them.Admit it Scott..........you love them.LOL.
Call me if you need a hand.. you know I want to check out the '86 anyway. :D
That 86 is awsome looking. I love that color, very sharp.
Yep the '86 looks sweet with the cobra R's and cowl hood :tg:
I had to fix the exhaust on my tempo last weekend...sucked, but it was a lot better than driving around with a giant hole in the exhaust.
Yep, exhaust work is no fun! I got to struggle with the factory h-pipe on the 87 today. That was definitely no picnic even with the heads off! Thank God that's done now. The heads are on and torqued in place and the exhaust is all bolted up. All I've got to do is piece the rest of it back together... and get it running:fart:
Then the real fun begins. Once I can drive the 87 I've got to put a heater core in the 86...
