At that price,it looks like he'll own it a little longer.
That price is likely 100 times more than what that car would be worth. Seriously. A mint mid 70's Montego couldn't be worth more than $8200.
Starsky and Hutch? They drove a Torino, not a Montego. I could see the value of that car being double the "normal" value (as in, around $16k) IF the car actually had something to do with the show, but "being painted and optioned like" and "being authentic" are two different animals.
Four-bolt-main 460: Did they even make such a thing? If Ford even did make a 4-bolt 460 it surely wouldn't be a mid 70's 150-horse smog engine...
Bench seat and AM radio: just like a million others, I'd bet. Certainly nothing special. And sure not $820k special...
I don't even think an actual Starsky & Hutch car, I'm talking actually used in a show, IF one even still exists is worth that much.
Nice car.
Just not for that price.
Scott.
There was a "real" S&H edition of the car. Not many were made but they are out there. Just not for a merc. The ones I heard of were Torino's
How many of y'all noticed the Fireturd in his pictures?
And $800,000.00+ for that....thing...? :beatyoass:
Dude, pass me some of the shiznit that guy is smokin', cause it must be good! :dunce:
Couple years ago I bought a 76 Torino for $50. pulled the engine and tranny, and sped the rest. Kinda wish I had the car now....could be worth $150,000.
I remember seeing the S&H cars running around when I was a kid back in the 70's.I always wanted one.
Thing is, the S&H cars were Torinos. This one is a Merc. Montego from the factory. Only two of them built. In that condition with the low miles on it, you could ask ANY price.
Yes, you could ask any price. Whether you'll get it is another story entirely...
wow still no bids i wonder why.:pbb:
Remember, this is America. You nail together two things that have never been nailed together before and some dumb schmuck will pay a fortune for it.
Amen Brother....
Captiolism at it's finest...
Well first off I'm 99.9% it's not a REAL S&H car. As already pointed out they were Torinos, but there is much more to the story than that.
I'm(OK was) a member of the FCA(Fairlane Club of America) so quite a bit of info has been researched on the S&H models... NEVER has a Montego been mentioned. Possibly the dealer pulled some strings and got Ford's Lorain Assembly Plant to paint a couple like S&Hs(paint code is blank, its 2B on the Torinos)... But paint doesn't make them real in the sense of being part of the original Torino S&Hs. All the REAL S&Hs have a six digit DSO that includes 0022 after the first two digits...
The Real cars were '76 Grand Torino's(not Broughams or std Torinos), assembled a the Chicago Plant, and were limited to 1000 copies(there are many clones)... 351's were std, but the 400 or 460 could be ordered...
Oh, that's it. I want at least $1.3 million for mine then. It's one of ZERO baby!! All non-documentation included. Seller will deliver on pickup only. No warranty isn't not included via mail.
Sheesh...ya think this dude can be a little more convoluted? ;)
If a Ford is going to have an $800K starting price tag, it had better come with the Blonde BJ option. And Vaseline. And at least a case of beer.
Good beer too. None of that watered down .
-ok, since i started this, and then read the info that turbocoupe50 had, so being as its VERY slow at work today, i decided to see what i could find on this thing....
ok first is 6, of course 1976
then H, lorain assy plant
03 is body, which translates to the 65B, montego 2dr hard top, MX formal roof.
then engine code A. well regardless what he thinks, or is in there now, A is a non-HO, non police duty 460 of your garden variety.
it was a 4bbl, but code C would have been the "police" version.
the rest is consecutive build numbers.
trans U is a C6 automatic.
axle K is a 3.07 ratio with a locking rear end.
and the DSO 31 is the buffalo NY area.
Now according to my info , the paint code being blank indicates a special order paint, which inturn refers you to the four digits after the DSO(0022, tc50 said on s&h cars, 0055 on this one) in which would send you back to the dealer ordering guide for the option which was designating the paint and the color there of.
with out a dealer ordering guide for '76 there is no way I KNOW of to find out exactly what that is...
hope this helps a little......
HUUMMM... Begnning to rethink this one. The date of build is correct on the Merc, S&H production begain in March... The 0055 in the DSO has me wondering as well, possibly it's the equal to the 0022 on the Torinos... But again the Torino had a paint code. Maybe 2B was a std color(less stripe) for the Torino, but had no equal color for the Merc's, so it would be blank... There is a service that would verify it's authenticity, and for that price he should include gold plated copies in addition to the features Eric mentioned.
My guess is it's a everyday Montego MX with the Torino 2B paint and probably dealer added stripe...
No matter if it was one of one(instead two) it ain't worth anywhere near his askin price... Maybe on a good day at Barrett Jackson it would bring about $30K. An original S&H Torino in the same condition would probably bring more... There are followers of these cars, but I always thought the '74-'76 Torino/Montego was FUGLY(I remember when they were new)
If I dig around I could probably find some more info, including a renunion picture of about 20 S&H cars...
-amen to that brother:screwy:
but i guess he had to start somewhere. now he'll know he has to go DOWN! i would figure somewhere in the 20-30K range with all of the original stuff on it, and maybe some kinda proof...:toilet:
...and a midget in the trunk. You know, in case you need to change tires or put gas in. He can reach that stuff no problem.
That trunk is big. It needs a Jacuzzi. That will give the midget something to clean between fill-ups.
Now, where do we put the butler...?
-TRUNK MONKEY!!!!!:spit:
Well the pix I was thinking about is on the net already...
http://www.starskytorino.com/reunions/2003/autofest/14s&htorinos.jpg
One bit of info in the Fairlane Club mag that I didn't see on the net describes the paint procedure. First the cars were painted with two coats of white in the areas to be the stripe(front fenders, doors and upper rear quarters). That area was then masked with the special striping and the whole car received three coats of the 2B red paint. Due to this special prep and painting , this is why only the Chicago plant mfg'd these Torino's. I'm sure there were at least two other assembly plants building Torinos in '76...
Here is a S&S for sale. Alot less then a Mil but it shows what one of these is worth.

It was..it's Bright Red....standard for an Elite, Granada, Pinto, Maverick, Torino, and Ranchero.
I'm also a FCA member. I looked at it again today and still zero bids.
