Title: Moving the ACT sensor on an explorer intake?
Post by: 1WLD BRD on November 07, 2006, 11:18:47 AM
Has anybody moved the sensor from the #1 intake runner to infront of the throttle body?  How did it run?  I already wrecked one motor by not hooking it up at all, and dont want to risk hurting another one.

My lower intake has the boss for the sensor but is not drilled and tapped for it, I figure it will be easier to just relocate the sensor to the intake tube, then drill and tap the intake.

I was told with Speed Density it should remain where the factory intended it to be.I had my Explorer lower intake drilled and tapped at a machine shop.$15.00 in and out.

I have done this recently. I have no problems except my car has the famous idle hunting and idles around 1,000 rpms. I can not adjust the idle any lower. I have a modified 65mm explorer throttle body, machined egr spacer, and stock ho intake at the current time. Here is the link that I started: http://foxtbirdcougarforums.com/showthread.php?t=10452 (http://"http://foxtbirdcougarforums.com/showthread.php?t=10452")

Thanks Vinnie,  guess I will run it in to my local machine shop and see what they will charge for it.  Thought about just buying the proper drill and taps for it but I guess that would be a waste of money.:dunce:

put it anywhere you want in the intake airstrem as long as it's sealed from the atmosfear..

do you see where mine is..

"but Nick you have heads cam and a huge intake manifold!"

so what! if you car idles like ba!!s then your ACT is bad or you have another problem..

any other questions?

Nick that is the most genius spark plug loom I have ever seen.  I'm going to go use that trick right now!

Why must this be sealed from the atmosphere? I have mine in the flexible air tube just after the air filter box.

you mean like the MN12 and the SN95 aftermarket air filter kit where it sits in mid air next to the air filter?

yes that works but!

i never liked that idea..

1, beacuse you do get a better reading someware in the air stream
and 2, sometimes all you have to do is look at ACT wrong and it will never work right again..

the reason why i said sealed in the air stream is beause if you have a mass air setup.. a pin hole will screw up a mass air reading and make the motor cry, kick, spit, miss, and mone!!

and thats the only reason why it has to be sealed..

Thanks for the help guys, as for the wire loom trick my dad showed me that last year on my Bird.  Neat idea, but I thought it kind of looked red neck so I got proper ones.:grinno:

I have it mounted in mid air just off the air cleaner box. My mass air computer went bad so I'm running speed density right now until I get another mass air computer. Guess I may have to move it once I go back to mass air set up.

Thanks for the info.

Curious, how did you toast an engine from the iac sensor, can't see that being possible.
If the sensor is not hooked up or is innop the car will run rich intentional
