Title: stupid brake cable
Post by: Haystack on January 04, 2005, 07:55:24 PM
today I took  a corner kinda hard and guess what happend? I heard a clunk and my car slipped into neutrual. and started Idealing like total . and was having troubles with the colum shift. I had no idea what happend. I had thought that the tranny just went. So I forced it back into OD(hard as hell I might add). I limped my cat home. Pulled it into the drive way, It was making all kinda of noises and even grinding at the brake  drums. I had no Idea what I was looking for. Finally I decided that the colum linkage was binding. I have suspected a bad motor mount for a while now and decided to test it. So I start it in neutrual, rev it up and it sits rock hard. So I put it in drive and rev it up alittle with the brakes on, still nothing. So I put it back in neutrual put the emergency brake on and I heard a snap. And just out of nowhere
IT ALL CLEARED UP!!! Anyone had anything similar to this happen? where there any recalls on brake cables? I have been lubricating my cables so I dont think that they binded up.

Well everything down there is exposed and there are metal lever type things which could easily rust together. I would be inclined to remove it because I never use the ebrake on automatic cars anyway.

my car was auto and my ebrake was dead to the world. I ahd to grind the brackets off.
When i went to stick i got cables from lokar for the ebrake and never had  aprob since.

Also note my car started life with drums then it got TC rear end with disks
