can someone shed some light on what all these letters and #'s mean on the tag that is bolted to the rear axle

6x-8a 3e04
47 75 v 452a

You need to look CAREFULLY at the #s again... Specifically the first ones on each line, though I believe it's the botton line that gives the ratio...

3e04 is date, May 04 '83 (or '93)

75 = 7.5"

452a is the model number Ford uses for parts ordering...

-not sure of what year you have but tc50 is right, date is prolly '83
47 is part of the ratio, which in 83-84 there was a  measley 2.47 ratio. v452a is v is the axle plant, 452a is the model code.  6x-8a, clueless unless it is a plant code of some kind....
