I got pulled over tonight. I was driving my '99 F150 and, I was coming home from a Halloween party, where I had not 1 drop of alcohol, and a cop passed me going the other way. I didn't think anything of it, then the all of the sudden, he whips a u-turn and gets behind me. Just as I pull onto my street, he flips his lights on. So he walks up and tells me he pulled me over because I have a license plate light out, which I know is BS because I just checked them less than five hours ago. When I tell the cop this he asks me if I would like to get out and check, so I do. And both lights are working. He then tells me that it needs to "illuminate my plate, and render it legible from 300 feet away". I told him if he had a problem with it to take it up with Ford. I end up getting off with a verbal warning to have it fixed, and the truck is stock. So I look this up tonight and find out he was incorrect. From the Ohio Revised code.
ยง 4513.05. Tail lights and illumination of rear license plate.
Either a tail light or a separate light shall be so constructed and placed as to illuminate with a white light the rear registration plate, when such registration plate is required, and render it legible from a distance of fifty feet to the rear. Any tail light, together with any separate light for illuminating the rear registration plate, shall be so wired as to be lighted whenever the headlights or auxiliary driving lights are lighted, except where separate lighting systems are provided for trailers for the purpose of illuminating such registration plate.
Thanks for reading
He probabally didnt get laid last night, dont let it get to ya.
It truely is amazing how miss or un informed most policemen are. I know several police officers and can get a different answer to any question at any given time regarding most laws.
Personaly I would so shove this in the cops face and then I would inform his chief and seargent that he was missinforming you and threatening (un)lawful actions.
lol someone is trying to write some tickets to get that big holiday bonus! What a douche. :grinno:
He was probably just bored and wanted something to do. But yeah, if the car is stock.... Some people....
Daniel
Technically all you need is one light to illuminate the plate anyway. So...I guess he was just your typical Ohio cop, pushing the power, trying to make his quota by the end of the month. ;)
i appeciate the job they do but when the thiunk that they can make yp laws cause no ones the wiser, that piss me off.
some cops....
are assholes

are just plainpen 15y little pen 15s that alway use a twist of word so you can follow what they are saying and they dont even know cause theyre just BSing you so it sounds like they know something---in this cause i would ask them to repeat it and twist them back( if you are in the right)
OOH yeah and there are so cool caops out there too.
i real dont like cops over all, incase you guy didnt get the hint
Im my experience about 75% of cops fall in to the pen 15y/pushy/know it all/asshole section and the other 25% are cool.
Kinda the same as chevy guys if you think about it :grinno:
This weekend is a big party weekend, so cops are looking for those lone cars out on the street, mostly for sobriety checks. He just came up with an excuse to check you. Dont take it personally.
It's the fact that he told me I had a license plate light out when I knew I didn't. He must have thought I was some kind of F*@&ing idiot. Then when I looked and the light was still working he came up with another B.S. story about thelight.
I took a quick cruise in a friends Ranger(new duals put on). I had 2 cops flip U turns and attempt to pull me over, for what I dont know. First time, I casually pulled into our local movie theater, and parked it, acting like I was returning it to the owner, the cop stopped and stared me down. Later I had one U turn and another friend was beside me, this kid speeds up to at least 50 (speed limit is 35). The cop flies by me and chases my friend, and they both pull off on a side street. Later I find out my friend got a warning for not using his blinkers, and his car physically searched.
Our cops are now searching vehicles without permission and finding reasons to ticket people. Its BS and morally wrong.
Trying to catch me ridin' dirty!:grinno:
im glad i didnt get into any thing this weekend.
