Title: Will a 3 inch exaust fit over the axel?
Post by: TrickFlow347 on January 02, 2005, 12:21:04 PM
I dont want dumps on my car,,, thats what it has now.  I need to know if anyone has a 3 inch exaust over the axel or if it will fit.
Also I need to get a set of long tube headders but Im worried about clearance, Does anyone have long tubes with a mustang k-member or even better a tubular k-member? the brand/size would help me alot!  Thanks.

3 inch will fit. as for the tank i have 83 kat with 3inch out the back and no prob with off set stupied tank ford used.
Why do u want to go to 3inch?
As for long tube's
BBKs work with stick but not with AOD.
MAC has longs that work with AOD or stick.

I run the mac shorties for 351 in fox and have had no probs with there headers. I also know people with longs from MAC and have had no probs.

I had Mac long-tubes on my column-shifted 5.0/AOD '88 Cougar. For about 11 minutes. I had to take 'em off after the very first test drive because every time I floored the car the driver's side header would hit the shift linkage and bump the car into neutral. A set of Mac shorties went on in their place...

When i had AOD i had floor shifter.
I can see how that would have been a small prob for u.

Why Im going with a 3" exhaust is because right now I have 2 1/2" dumps and the pressure will knock ya on your ass, I have a highly modified 347 stroker motor. :grinno:

The car is floor shift.  I had some longtube headders that I bought a long time ago that are  made to fit a 5.0 cougar xr7 but the car has taken a different direction since I got thoes and they wont fit in the tight space. Right now I have Flowtech shorties and there in there really tight as well, they hit the steering coulmn.
I ordered a set of flowtech "Block hugger" long tubes today from autozone so I could return them easily if I need to.

I plan on the exhaust to come out right behind the rear tires, not straight out the back,,,so I dont think the gas tank should be a problem.

What do you guys think about universal fit tailpipes?

http://store.summitracing.com/default.asp?target=esearch.asp&N=100&Ntk=PartSearch&Ntt=flo-15902&x=10&y=10 (http://store.summitracing.com/default.asp?target=esearch.asp&N=100&Ntk=PartSearch&Ntt=flo-15902&x=10&y=10)

Think they will work?

Alot of the shops cant make the bends, Im thinking of maybe going with 3" and using a reducer to fit 2 1/2" tail pipe.
