Title: Finally managed to kill the 3.8L lastnight.
Post by: 1WLD BRD on October 15, 2006, 10:34:09 AM
So now it is time for the 5.0L/T5 swap.  Was't ready for it though!  I was just driving home normally from my parents place last night when I noticed it was starting to run kind of rough.  Long story, short.......

Yep you guessed it....  Headgaskets.:raspberry :shakehead

I hate 3.8L's  Oh well, guess I will finally be back in a 5.0L 5 speed soon.:grinno:

Should I upgrade the fuel pump to the 5.0L one while Im under the car?  Or will the 3.8L one be fine?

I think since the car's an '88 the pump should be identical and provide adequate pressure for a 5.0

Didn't I give you a Holley pump last time you were over?
Sorry to hear about the 3.8, can't understand how that could happen:dunno:

Change the fuel pump and get it over with if you do the swap. The head gaskets aren't hard to change. They have an upgraded gasket that is more durable than the old ones.

Ummmm........  Guys...... :slap:   I KNOW IT IS EASY TO CHANGE H/Gs in a 3.8L, I've done it.....  a couple of times now:grinno: .

So please tell me WHY I would want to bother wasting my money on a boat anchor:crazy: :dunno:  when I could make more/easier power with a 5.0L PLUS it will sound way better too.  LOL:ies: :tg:

The swap has begun....  I tried to blow it up before I pulled it but it wouldn't let go, even bouncing off 6,500rpm.  here are the videos:

exhaust clip, rearview (http://"http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Ls0g98ti9A")
watch the tach bounce! (http://"http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hXpqgNW4bMk")

lol they never die when you want them too, I've tried that with the 255 in my 80 t-bird, right to the mat screaming, no exhaust. took it like a champ. It's now a bush buggy :beatyoass:
