Post by: EricCoolCats on October 14, 2006, 10:32:44 AM
Just received word from the CCOA:

I just wanted to give you a heads up that I am working on a CCOA Regional at the Carlisle All Ford Nats. It is going to be a Cougar 40th anniversary extravaganza! We'll have special billing in all of their literature, some Cougars in building T, and all our cars on display outside of building T. More details to come, pass the word! We'll need ALL years of Cougar present to put on a good show!

I would HIGHLY recommend this for all Cougar owners if you can make it. We need to have a good showing for the Fox and MN12 Cougars...especially with such good parking spots. ;)

More details posted as I get them. Thanks!

I highly recommend the show. If you have never been to Carlisle you will be amazed. We went to the 50th tbird event there and to see one of every year all in a row is quite impressive. Also to look out over the grounds and see all of the Fords is amazing.

You have just given me the shot in the arm needed to get my car put back together.

Looks like this is about an 8 hour drive for me - that's doable.

When is this event usually held?

I can say from experience there will be cars from all over the US and Canada there. I now drive about 5 and a half hours to get there but when I was living in West Palm Beach I would fly to Pit and drive about 2 hours east to Carlisle. If you plan on attending find a hotel soon as you know, they vanish quickly

June 1-3 2007.

Alex you'll love it. It gets a bit overshadowed by the over abundance of Mustangs but it's still a great event. The swap meet is great too, I got a couple doors and some other stuff this past show.

So not to sound crazy but where do you all plan on staying? Since we'll have a larger crowd this year maybe stay at the same place?

Eric,

I am looking forward to meeting you too and checking out your convertible.
My car has been out of commission for some time now. What started as a just valve stem seal and cam replacement over the winter turned into a full engine rebuild with lots of internal mods.  A full suspension rebuild with a 8.8 swap. Just too much stuff to list but it will remain stock "looking" and will take an "expert" to pick out the mods.

Currently the car is without engine or trans. I’m in need of a set of Mark VII hood springs and or hinges and then the engine compartment will be painted and I can start re-assembly.
My major issue will be that since I have detailed everything under the car that I won’t want to drive it to PA and get caught in the rain but oh well, I don’t intend it to be a trailer queen so I will just have a cleaning job to do when I get back home.

I hear ya...that's why I don't pre-register at Carlisle, even though I know I should. It's only a 4 hour drive for me...but since the top leaks, and all the windows leak, let's just say driving in the rain in the convertible isn't very bloody fun. When I have to wear a rain poncho inside the car, it's times like that when I start thinking about buying a trailer. LOL

I have a lot of Cougar work to do this winter. Hopefully it won't be down-to-the-wire-for-Carlisle again, like it is every year, but knowing me it will be. Too much to do, not enough time. Fortunately my mechanic will be involved with the things I won't have time to do (valve seals, rebuilt rear end, new gears). All I know is...2007 is shaping up to be an expensive year for the E Man. But Carlisle will be worth it.

I pre- registered the last 2 years.....Thinking of bringing 2 cars this year however and was reading the price breakdowns.......

Quote
All-Ford Nationals Show field
Register a vehicle for the 2007 All-Ford Nationals Showfield. Includes weekend admission for two people.
$35

All-Ford Nationals Show field - 2nd Vehicle
Register a second vehicle for the 2007 All-Ford Nationals Showfield. Includes weekend admission for two people. You must have at least one other vehicle registered for the All-Ford show field and you must be the owner of both vehicles.
$30

Looking at this does the $30 bucks for the second car get you two extra passes?  That is...tickets for 4 people?

Sounds like you get 4 passes to me. If that's the case, I wish I could sell two back if I take both cars. I only need two people.

Wow, Paul found the thread, I'm impressed.

I think I have all that stuff figured out now. The car hasn't been driven on the road since then though.

Since 2004 there has been Stock and Modified classes for 1983-88. Now in 2006 that didn't happen, probably because of lack of pre-registered vehicles. In '07 with the special Cougar display area, I really can't say what's going to happen. However, I suspect we're going to have a good turnout and we should have our usual Stock and Modified divisions again. One thing is for certain: we're going to have really great parking spots for a change. :) If I get any news about the classes I'll be sure to pass it along here.

BTW, I've tempted Mother Nature and have pre-registered the convertible for '07. Now all I need to do is buy one of those party tents to cover it. And who knows...maybe I'll have another car there too... ;)

What's the turn out like for Thunderbirds at this event? And Lincolns too? I have an 87 that is pretty show worthy and my dad should have his 81 mark six finished by then...Just wondering cuz it looks like a pretty awesome event!
Title: Cougar 40th Anniv @ Carlisle
Post by: 5.0willgo on February 22, 2007, 03:59:02 PM
There are usually a ton of thunderbirds. I'm pretty sure there were more than 20 fox birds in '06.
Lincolns have a decent turn out as well.

All Fords are welcome and there is a class for all.
If I have car trouble again, I'm going to try to c00ch my uncle's '93 F-150. Looks showroom new and there's a place for it in the show.

I have yet to go to Carlisle. If I go, I won't be doing CatJam, which I may not do anyway. Money is tight, reeeeeeel tight. If I go, it would only be for a couple days, so does anyone have an idea of what two days are the best to show up for?
With all the problems I had last year, i don't even know if I want to bring one of my cats. If I did, it would have to be the 88' XR7.
Are there any decent hotels outside the carlisle area that would be nice enough to stay 2?

By the way, is that weasle next to your car in the picture in this link from CCOA?

I'm going with or without a car.
I've really been working hard on the '88 the past few weeks and almost have it done. She hasn't seen any road time since last years incident just before the show.

As long as it runs good, which I'll find out once it's all back together, it'll be there.  I'll then just need to patch up the rust on the body so it's more presentable.

I've decided to drive the cougar out there..... I think he'll make it there with no problems.... I'm just gonna do a complete run through of everything before the haul.... The only downside is the massive amount of fuel it's gonna suck down..... ha ha..... I'll just have to drive in the slow lane and every once in awhile break 100 + just to clean it out.... ha ha.... Hope to see you all there.......

Well, I just booked my registration for carlisle.... So I'm just figuring out what to do about my tire situation now for this almost 400 mile round trip drive there... I don't want to take the chance in driving out with my Nitto drag radials especially if I get caught in any type of moisture... that would be bad...
I think I'm gonna buy a set of street tires for the ride and then save them for the front of the car when I need to replace them.....
I'm excited to drive my baby all the way out there..... and meet up with you guys.....

see you all real soon.....

Title: Cougar 40th Anniv @ Carlisle
Post by: EricCoolCats on May 29, 2007, 12:35:31 PM
Try Simple Green...if that doesn't work, a clay bar should do it...if that still doesn't work, a good body compound (such as 3M Finesse-It II) will rub out overspray. Lacquer thinner definitely is the last resort. It can ruin surfaces, though, so test it first.

Thanks, the rubber is off the car, but I've tried several nasty thinners and the ed paint is stuck to that rubber like white on rice! I may not have tried lacquer thinner - I'm not sure.

So, should I go to the show Eric? :D

If you can make it...this is going to be a very special show, with the Cougar as the top marque this year. It only happens once every 10 years. So...there are the facts. ;)

If you can make it...this is going to be a very special show, with the Cougar as the top marque this year. It only happens once every 10 years. So...there are the facts. ;)

Nah, moron me and moron painter didn't remove the rubber bumpers around the hood when it was painted. It's baked on goodness :flame: :(

Yeah, I was looking for a little push to get me going - I'm kinda excited to go, but I'll have to ask mom to watch the kids :D

Oh...those little things...no big deal. Lacquer thinner works great, won't ruin the rubber. Now if you've got basecoat AND clearcoat on the rubber, well, that's a biatch to remove...I usually crack the paint and hope it flakes off LOL. If it doesn't, well, it's much easier to "borrow" those bumpers from another car if you have the means. ;)

Just don't let that keep you from coming to Carlisle ;)
I won't be quite near show worthy but it'll be there. I wish some overspray summed up my problems :o

Heh -  - that's why the stuff won't come off :punchballs:

It's the whole baked on base and clearcoat. I wonder if I can find another Bird or Cougar in the yards here any more :( They went from feast to famine around here - hardly a Fox body to be found anymore...

My Cougar won't be going this year as the Mustang will be going solo once again.  I've had an issue with the water pump gasket leaking for quite some time now.  I had patched it and it stopped, but the other day it gave way and the slow trickle is back a little bit worse than it was before.  I don't want to chance the 180 mile drive as I won't be able to get to it before Carlisle.  It really sucks having to pull all the bracketry and pump off for a minor tear in the gasket.  PITA!!!!!

My wife, the Mustang and I will see you all down there!  Hopefully it won't be another Ford Rain Weekend!

I wish I could go and meet you guys, but we are saving for a vacation to VA in June and i gotta take my son to Grave Diggers Dungeon while we are down there so i want to make sure we have enough money for that trip. I dont know if we can make the 220 mile 4 1/2 hour drive. My wife is off from work on Sat. though. I hope i can make it to CJ this year but I dont know if we can and if we did the T-bird wouldn't be going.

I'm excited to get my Beast out to Carlisle... I just finished up on it today, looking pretty good... Some cosmetics issues I didn't have time for but mechanically it's all good.  It will be a good 3 hour drive or so, but that will be good to break in the new rear... lol... I'm driving down Friday late and will be in there bright and early on Saturday.... If you see me roll in, please stop and say hi.... if you don't know me, I'm Dave  better know as August 07' in the calendar.
I might not be on here again this week, so I hope to meet everyone from here that's going...
see ya there

At least it looks as if our travel day (Friday) is supposed to be good. Hopefully we'll get at least half a good day on Saturday.

You think Carlisle Productions will ever learn, and move everything back one weekend?

hey guy's what time are you guy's getting to the show ground's? I'm leaving tomorrow at noon or so to head down to beyer, PA where my cousin's are. There about 2 hours from the show. I want to be able to meet somebody and follow them in so I know where to go and what to do.

Ric has to be there on Thursday so he'll be in Building "Y", I believe...wherever the Cougar display building is. His car is on display so he's not in the show field. All other non-display Cougars will be parked directly outside that building. If you're entering the show as a partint, you'll want to go in Gate C and get your registration, then when you enter the fairgrounds the workers will direct you to the designated Cougar parking area.

I'm leaving early on Friday and should be at the fairgrounds about noon-ish. Far as I know, Ric is the only Fox Cougar person scheduled to be there on Thursday. So I guess it just depends on which day you'll be there.

I'm hoping to be there before noon. I want to try to go meet David Pearson and Bud Moore on Friday since they'll probably be mobbed on Saturday.

Are we allowed to set up tents?
I've seen people do it before on the fun field but haven't seen anyone do it around the 'feature' cars.
I might be able to snag one from my sister and brother-in-law to help shield us from the rain. Anyone else have one?

I don't know...this year we're in our own section separate from all other cars, so I'm thinking we *should* be alright. I'm bringing a tent also (to cover my leaky roof ;)). If we're not allowed, they'll let us know right away, I'm sure.

Well hellloooooo from the show!

Will's here...so is John. I got both my cars here without incident. In fact... [bragging] I got 30 MPG in the '84 on the way here. [/bragging] ;) I don't know how or why but I'll take it! I've never heard of a 3.8 with no overdrive getting that high of fuel economy before. Guess an old dog can learn a few tricks! Anyway, I'll try to post pix tomorrow. It's 90 degrees F outside, very humid, my boys are sticking, and I'm going to find something cold to drink. Later!

Well, I haven't left yet. Leaving in a few. Unfortunately I won't be able to bring the car. Although it runs like a raped ape right now I now have a cracked brake rotor and since I don't have the spare cash or time to fix it right now, the car won't be there.

It figures, I was going to unveil it's 'newness'.
Oh well, I'll be coming out tonight and be there for the rest of the weekend.

Just got back from Carlisle! I was only able to go today (part of my birthday present from my wife & kids) because I had to work yesterday. Looked like a lot of people headed home early, like maybe even yesterday! Picked up some odds and ends for the garage, saw Weasle's car (but I didn't see you, Will) and looked like he won an award again! Congrats! Saw an 87 Anniversary Cougar (burgundy) I think with NJ tags, not sure who's it is. Wish I could've been there Saturday!!!

Just got back a few minutes ago myself. CougrrrFiveO, don't thnik I got to meet you.

After all the rain I hit on the way to Carlilse and all the rain on the way back, I'm kind-of glad I didn't have my car. Leather interior with the windows up and no AC isn't fun.

Congrats Will for 1st place '83-'88 Cougar.

Yeah, my kids were booing. They were sure I was gonna win because my B-day is today. Then when they heard her say she wanted the money, they were saying "no fair, she doesn't deserve to win". I kept telling them it was fine and I was just happy to see someone win (and on the first ticket too). But it is kind of a bummer that she didn't appreciate what a nice car that Cougar is because, as she said "it's not a Thunderbird".:beatyoass:

Oh, it was also a little disappointing that "Miss All-Ford Nationals 2007" couldn't make it to the awards, and Bill Miller's wife (I think) had to stand in. I think it should be a requirement that if they partite in the contest, they have to commit to being at the awards.

I had an interesting weekend. I was about 30 miles south of DC on I-95 when a very unexpected thing occurred.
I was following some rube in a jacked-up F-350 in the left-hand lane. I don't know if he fell asleep or dropped something, but he drifted onto the left shoulder, nearly leaving the lane completely, before jerking the big truck back into track. Before making the correction, the rear tires (very large) kicked up a chunk of tire which went airborne and slapped right into the driver's side mirror of my car. This not only blew the glass out of the housing, but it left an actual skidmark on the housing of the mirror.
I wrote down his license plate number but I strongly doubt I will ever do anything about it. In the short span of the weekend, I was able to buy an MN12 mirror (at Carlisle, of course), paint it, and install it with no problems. Karl was able to remove the skidmark from the old mirror, so I suppose I could swap the guts from the new mirror back into the old.

Otherwise, it was a much-needed trip from what I've been doing.
I was hoping to see a stronger turnout for the Fox Cougars, but at least I was able to meet up with some old friends; that alone made the trip more than worth it.
Cat Jam isn't looking too positive, so I'm glad I made it to Carlisle and enjoyed the weekend.

Hey everyone,  I'm glad to have met some of you guys down at Carlisle this past weekend.  The weather was hot as heck on Saturday but no complaints.  My car drove beautiful on the way out except for when it rained and my rear drag radials didn't like it. lol.... With the 4.10 gears I was still able to cruise comfortably at 70 -75 @2600 -2800 rpm range with no temp problems.... Cruised all the way down and home @ 185 -198 with the AC on..... The only time it creeped over 200 was when I did a brief 120+ mph.......
Anyways, it was a great weekend and congrats to all the winners and hope to see ya again.....
I have a bunch of pictures that I will get up to the site once I get them off the camera.....

It was a great time. Im glad to have met some new faces, and seen many of my old friends. I was downright amazed that the TC performed flawlessly, and even in its rough condition, i threw it on the show field.

The main misfortune is my girlfriend. She has(had) porcalain white skin. She was in a tank top and carpi pants, and every bit of exposed skin is causing her some really bad pain.

Very good pics. My camera would not accept the new memory card, so no pics. I was looking for a Cat or Bird with a 351w to get pics of. It was nice meeting the guy with the maroon MN12, and the rest of you under the tent. Good display of fox cars.
