I am thinking about dropping a 429 in my cat but I need the best year ranges of that engine. I know some of the later 70's ones sucked.
Any suggestions?
I found this

what do you guys think?
Also, what trans goes the best with a 429. I was thinking C6 but any other suggestions would be great, thanks!
It was mainly the heads and compression that sucked them down in their later years which you would most likely replace if you were building it up.
Why not go for the readily available 460?
True, a 460 would be nice. I still like the history of the 429 though.
Find one with D0ve heads. In '70 they were rated at 365hp, not sure what they were in '71, probably the same. Try searching on www.fordmuscle.com (http://"www.fordmuscle.com").
68-71 Imo
Definitely try to find 68-early 71 blocks. I had a 71 SCJ stuffed into my 68 GT Fastback 'Stang back when I was in high school. Tough as nails motor! Or...you could just go and stuff a crate (SVO) 514 under the hood and call it good! No one would ever know the difference :)
MMMMM cubes taste like chicken.
i have a 68 429 block,crank, and heads( c8ve's ). block is standard,crank also.heads are stock with no work done to them. i'd take $400 for them.
